Targeted messaging, for example advertisements, may be provided to a user terminal connectable to a service node in a communications network, said network comprising a library node connected to the service node and comprising messages, such as advertisements, in different formats for different access types, by the following steps: requesting the delivery of at least one message from the library node to the service node for distribution to the user terminal, while specifying in the request the access type used by the user terminal, and providing from the library node to the service node the appropriate version of the at least one message in dependence of the access type used by the user terminal. One or more parameters, such as demographic data, may be specified for how to select a message from the library node.

Targeted messaging to end user terminal connected to a service node in a communications network

The present invention reduces automatic gain control (AGC) transients using first and second AGC processing branches to receive a signal. A gain is selectively adjusted (if desired) in the one of the AGC processing branches during a first time period. However, a gain is not adjusted in the other AGC processing branch during that first time period. The signals generated by the first and second AGC processing branches are then diversity processed to generate a received signal. The diversity processing effectively reduces the effect of any AGC transient.

Method and apparatus for reducing the effect of AGC switching transients

The reliability of a data flow between a server and a client in a data communications network is increased. An application in a user terminal is arranged to receive information from a server, such as a push server or a streaming server, in the network. A user who should have an active connection to the server is monitored to determine if the user currently has such a connection. An appropriate action is taken if this is not the case. The user's connection to the data communications network is monitored. If connected to the data communications network, the user should also have an active connection to said server.

Method for automatic information transmission in an IP network

In a system having a master device coupled to a slave device by means of an interface, wherein a function of the master device includes downloading a control program to the slave device, an apparatus for providing the master device with capability information corresponding to the slave device has hardware for reading the capability information from a predefined portion of the control program, and hardware for storing the capability information for use by the master device during a communications operation with the slave device. An encoding scheme for the capability information permits new functions to be added without having to re-encode pre-existing information corresponding to pre-existing slave devices. The capability information is encoded as a first vector and a second vector. A new function that is supported by a new slave device is added to the first vector when the new function is not supported by any pre-existing slave device. Default values are provided for pre-existing first vectors, to indicate that the new function is not supported by the pre-existing slave devices. Similarly, a new function that is supported by all pre-existing slave devices but not supported by a new slave device is added to the second vector, with appropriate default values provided for pre-existing second vectors.

Providing a master device with slave device capability information

There is a trend in the electronics industry towards a preference for components that can be surface mounted on a carrier, such as a circuit board. By using surface mountable leads on a component together with a &ldquo;Single-In-Line&rdquo; technique it is possible to surface mount a component (,) upstanding on a circuit board (,) with the component leads surface mounted on the board. The leads (,) may be bent at their bottom extremities and provided with feet (,) for effective contact with the board. Guide and support pins may be used to hold the component in position during mounting and connecting the component and to brace the leads on the component when mounted on the board.

Arrangement for mounting a component upstanding on a carrier with surface mounted leads

The present invention relates to an arrangement and to a method for cooling a radio transceiver unit (100a, 100b) mounted at the upper part of a radio mast (140; 120b). A cooling unit (110) conveys a coolant (130) from the lower part of the radio mast (140; 120b) to the radio transceiver unit (100), where said coolant (130) cools the transceiver unit. The proposed solution enables the cooling unit (110) to cool simultaneously two or more radio transceiver units (10a; 100b) that are distanced from the cooling unit (110). The solution also enables a reduction in the weight load on the radio mast (140; 120b) and enables the cooling unit (110) to be reached more easily for repair and maintenance work.

Arrangement and method for the remote cooling of radio transceivers

Method and an arrangement for mounting a component on a carrier

In a base station of a mobile cellular telephone system of the type having time division multiple access (TDMA) channels, a radio frequency test loop is established between a predetermined downlink channel of a base station transmitter and a predetermined uplink channel of a base station receiver. The test loop is in real time, thereby eliminating the time offset of the radio channels used for communications. The radio frequency test loop includes a circuit for transposing the frequency of the carrier signal from the transmitter to a frequency that can be received by the receiver. The signal having the transposed frequency is used in tests for determining values such as bit error rate (BER), transmission signal level, or reception sensitivity.
