A device for machining the cornea of a human eye with focused pulsed laser radiation includes controllable components, a control computer for controlling these components and a control program for the control computer. The control program contains instructions that are designed to generate an incision figure in the cornea permitting the insertion of an intrastromal corneal ring implant. The incision figure includes a ring incision situated totally deep within the corneal tissue and an opening incision extending at right angles to the ring plane of the ring incision from the anterior surface of the cornea or from the posterior surface of the cornea as far as at least the ring incision. The ring incision exhibits, assigned to the opening incision, a radial&#x2014;relative to the ring axis&#x2014;widening zone in which the opening incision impinges on the ring incision.

Device and process for machining the cornea of a human eye with focused pulsed laser radiation

A device for generating at least one continuous slit-like incision () from the posterior surface () as far as the anterior surface () of the cornea () of an eye, comprising a laser device for generating at least one part of the incision with focused pulsed laser radiation, the laser device including controllable components for setting the location of the focus, a control computer for controlling these components, and also a control program for the control computer. The control program contains instructions that are designed to bring about, upon execution by the control computer, the generation of at least one part of the incision () originating from the posterior surface () of the cornea, the cross-sectional contour of the incision&#x2014;when observed in the direction from the anterior surface to the posterior surface&#x2014;deviating from a straight line () perpendicular to the surface of the eye.

Proposed is an apparatus for assistance in the implantation of a corneal prosthesis in a human eye. The apparatus comprises a laser device for providing focussed, pulsed laser radiation, and a control program for the laser device. The control program is designed, to create an incision figure in the tissue of the eye by means of the laser radiation, this incision figure allowing the corneal prosthesis to be inserted. The incision figure in this case comprises a bed incision located entirely in the depth of the corneal material and an annular incision, which, within the circumferential line of the bed incision, extends from the latter, along its entire annular circumference, as far as the corneal anterior surface. The incision figure further may comprise an auxiliary incision, which extends from a location of the eye surface outside the circumferential line of the bed incision as far the bed incision.

Method for producing an incision figure for a corneal prosthesis

A device for machining the human cornea with focused pulsed femtosecond laser radiation comprises scanner components for local setting of the beam focus, a control computer for controlling the scanner components, and a control program for the control computer. The control program contains instructions that upon execution by the control computer are designed to bring about the generation of an incision figure in the cornea encompassing a flap incision (). In accordance with the invention the incision figure further encompasses an auxiliary incision () connected with the flap incision and leading locally, preferentially directly, away from the latter as far as the surface of the cornea. The auxiliary incision is expediently generated temporally ahead of the flap incision and forms a discharge channel through which gases can escape that may arise in the course of the cutting of the flap incision.
