A method for monitoring control units in a network is described, each control unit including a security function for detecting errors, a monitoring routine being assigned to each error and a plurality of monitoring routines being available, a shutdown matrix which is subdivided according to errors being assigned to the security function, at least one of the monitoring routines being selected from the plurality of monitoring routines according to the errors present in the shutdown matrix, depending on at least one first condition, the shutdown matrix containing various shutdown strategies, and on detection of at least one error by the monitoring routine, one of the shutdown strategies is carried out in the network, depending on at least the first condition and/or at least one second condition, at least one control unit in the network being shut down.

A system for controlling a regulator equipped with an electric servomotor in a motor vehicle. With reference to an example of an electronic steering system that has an electric-motor steering regulator, output parameters are generated by a model-assisted monitor for evaluating the suitability of a correction for the regulator, and thus criteria for a possible shutdown or to initiate emergency action, as a function of setpoint parameters for the electric servomotor, of instantaneous parameters measured by individual sensors, and of the driving state, and, based on a setpoint behavior of the regulator and on a model simulating the control sections it contains.

Control system which carries out the model-supported safety monitoring of an electronically regulated controller in the motor vehicle

A steering system for a vehicle, having a steering wheel, a steering gear and a steering module, disposed between them, for superimposed steering engagement by a controlled electric motor. The electric motor has an input shaft connected to the steering wheel and an output shaft connected to the steering gear. For the sake of structurally simplifying the steering module, the electric motor is in direct engagement, in line with a clutch that can be engaged and disengaged, with the input shaft via a first gear, and the electric motor is in direct engagement with the output shaft via a second gear.

Steering system for a vehicle

The invention concerns a system for automatic following guidance, particularly for heavy-traffic automatic following guidance, of a motor vehicle ( ), designed to ease the burden on the driver in heavy-traffic situations both by taking over lateral guidance by means of an automatic steering regulation system and by maintaining a set distance from a leading vehicle. The latter function requires an adaptive cruise and braking regulation system with &ldquo;stop&rdquo; and &ldquo;go&rdquo; function. According to the invention, selection and decision means ( ) are provided that select both the regulating parameters and the types of controllers &lsqb;sic&rsqb;, e.g., following guidance of the motor vehicle ( ) on the basis of lane markings recognized by means of a video camera or on the basis of a recognized leading vehicle. The system is divided into hierarchical levels I-IV, the driver always being in the monitoring and adaptation loop assigned to the top level IV of the hierarchy, so that he has the highest priority and can override the system at any time.

Automatic following guidance system for motor vehicles

An electromechanical steering actuator for a steer-by-wire application in motor vehicles. An electronic closed-loop/open-loop control system generates steering signals for a pair of electric servomotors, which act via a gear unit on a steering control element of a rack-and-pinion steering system. The closed-loop/open-loop control system includes a pair of process computers which deliver corrective signals to the servomotors via drive units. The steering actuator is divided into two diversely redundant systems including two redundant process computers, each of which delivers corrective signals via two redundant drive units to two servomotors which act on a common steering shaft.
