In one embodiment, a method includes, by one or more computing devices, receiving, from a client system at a first location, an audio input from an unknown user; identifying a first user of the online social network who is proximate to the first location; identifying the unknown user as a second user of the online social network based on a comparison of the audio input to one or more voiceprints of one or more candidate users stored by the online social network, respectively, wherein each voiceprint comprises audio data for auditory identification of a unique user of the online social network, and wherein each candidate user is within a threshold degree of separation of the first user within the online social network; and sending customized content to one or more of the first user or the second user based on their social-networking information.

Multiple user recognition with voiceprints on online social networks

In one embodiment, a method includes, by one or more computing devices of an online social network, receiving, from a client system of a first user and from a second user, a biometric input used to identify the second user, sending, to the client system, a personal identifier for presentation to the second user, receiving, from the client system in response to the presentation of the personal identifier to the second user, an audio input from the second user, determining, based on a comparison of the audio input to a voiceprint of the second user, wherein the voiceprint comprises audio data for auditory identification of the second user, whether the audio input comprises the personal identifier spoken by the second user, and authenticating the second user to access an online account associated with the second user via the client system if the audio input is determined to be spoken by the second user and comprise the personal identifier spoken by the second user.

User identification with voiceprints on online social networks

In one embodiment, a method includes sending, to a client system of a first user, a notification for presentation to the first user. The notification may include a reference to a media-content item and an activatable element for accessing the media-content item. A user input selecting the activatable element may be received. Responsive to the user input, a list of proximate media-player devices to the client system may be determined. The list of proximate media-player devices may be sent to the client system for presentation to the first user. Each of the proximate media-player devices may correspond to a deep link being selectable by the first user. Each deep link may include instructions for presenting the media-content item on a display device coupled to the respective media-player device.

Content notification on online social networks for media-player devices

In one embodiment, a method includes, by one or more computing devices of an online social network, receiving, from a client system of a first user of the online social network, an audio input from a second user, wherein the audio input comprises one or more voice commands, identifying the second user based on a comparison of the audio input to one or more voiceprints stored by the online social network, wherein each voiceprint comprises audio data for auditory identification of a unique user of the online social network, determining a relationship status between the first user and the identified second user within the online social network, and determining whether to perform an action associated with each voice command based on permission settings associated with the action and the determined relationship status between the first user and the identified second user.

In one embodiment, a method includes receiving current session information associated with a first user from a beacon associated with a third-party content provider, wherein the current session information indicates that a first client system of the first user is in an active wireless communication session with the beacon, accessing session information associated with one or more second users, wherein each second user is within a threshold geographical distance of the beacon, selecting one or more of the one or more second users based on the accessed session information, wherein the accessed session information associated with each of the selected second users indicates that a second client system associated with the selected second user is not in a wireless communication session with the beacon, and sending a notification referencing the selected one or more second users to the first client system.

Generating user notifications using beacons on online social networks

An online system determines that a mobile device of a user and content device are connected to the same local network. To determine whether the content device is associated with the user, the online system provides a token and network ports to the content device. The content device establishes a connection to the mobile device using a selected network port to send the token. Responsive to receiving the token from the mobile device, the online system determines that the devices are connected to the same local network. The online system may also determine that the devices are within physical proximity to each other. The online system may send content items to the devices, and the user may view or interact with the content items simultaneously on multiple devices. Thus, the mobile device or content device acts as a complementary 'second screen' or 'control device' for the other device.

Determining local network connections of devices using tokens

In one embodiment, a method includes receiving a first, a second, and a third sensing events within a same beacon message interval from a mobile device, each sensing event including a beacon device identifier associated with a beacon device and a timestamp associated with a respective beacon message, a location of the mobile device, and a power level associated with the respective beacon message, determining a first, a second, and a third distances between the mobile device and the beacon device based on the first, the second, and the third sensing events, and determining a position of the beacon device based on the first, the second, and the third distances.

In one embodiment, a method includes receiving, from beacons of a third-party (e.g., a business), session information for a user of an online social network. A mobile device of the user may have been in at least one wireless communication session with at least one beacon, and during the session the mobile device was proximate to the at least one beacon. The session information may include an identifier for the user, which may be used to access social-networking information for the user. Session information and the social-networking information of the user may be sent back to the third-party. User-specified permissions may delimit which information may be sent.

Generating business insights using beacons on online social networks

In one embodiment, a method includes receiving a sonic signal from a beacon device at a mobile device, receiving a wireless signal from the beacon device at the mobile device, detecting a presence of an enclosure surrounding the beacon device by the mobile device based on a disparity between a normalized strength of the sonic signal and a normalized strength of the wireless signal, and determining whether the detected enclosure complies with installation guidelines associated with the beacon device by the mobile device.

In one embodiment, a method includes, by one or more computing devices of an online social network, receiving, from a client system of a first user of the online social network, a first audio input from an unknown user, identifying one or more candidate users, wherein each candidate user is a user of the online social network within a threshold degree of separation of a known user, calculating, for each candidate user, a probability score representing a probability that the unknown user is the candidate user, wherein the probability score is based on a comparison of the first audio input to a voiceprint of the candidate user stored by the online social network, wherein each voiceprint comprises audio data for auditory identification of the candidate user, and identifying one of the candidate users as being the unknown user based on the calculated probability scores of the candidate users.

In one embodiment, a method includes receiving, from a media-player device associated with a social-networking system, an indication that a plurality of client systems of a plurality of users of an online social network, respectively, are proximate to the media-player device. Each of the users is logged into a native application associated with the social-networking system on a respective client system. The media-player device is communicatively coupled to a display screen. The social-networking system may access, in response to the received indication, social-networking information and watch-history information of each user. The social-networking system may select one or more media-content items from a plurality of media-content items based on the social-networking information and watch-history information of each user. The social-networking system may send, to the media-player device, the one or more selected media-content items and instructions to send the selected media-content items to the display screen for display to the users.

Customizing media content on online social networks

In one embodiment, a method includes receiving, from a first client system of a first user of the online social network, an indication that a media-player device is proximate to the first client system. Content information associated with media-content items may be accessed. The media-content items may be accessible to the first user via the media-player device. Responsive to the received indication and content information, social-networking information of the first user may be accessed. A media-content item may be selected based on the content information and the social-networking information of the first user. A customized notification may be sent to the first client system. The customized notification may include a reference to the selected media-content item and a deep link to the media-player device. The deep link may be selectable by the first user and may include instructions for accessing the selected media-content item via the media-player device.

In one embodiment, a method includes an online social networking system generating an authentication key in response to a request from a media-player device. The media-device player broadcasts the authentication key, which is received by a client system of a user of the online social network that is within range of the broadcast. The user is logged into the online social network via an application running on the client system. The application verifies the authentication key with the online social networking system. Location information of the client system and social-networking information of the user are sent by the application to the media-player device in response to the authentication key being verified. The user may be registered as an owner of the media-player device or a guest user of the media-player device.
