A slitting machine () includes a laminated film unwinding apparatus (), a release liner recovery apparatus (), a cutting apparatus (), and a plurality of polymer substrate strip rewinding apparatuses (). The laminated film unwinding apparatus () is operable to unwind a roll of laminated film () comprising at least a polymer substrate () and a release liner (). The release liner recovery apparatus () is operable to wind the release liner () that is released from the polymer substrate (). The cutting apparatus () is operable to cut at least the polymer substrate () along a machine direction to divide the polymer substrate into strips. The plurality of polymer substrate strip rewinding apparatuses () are operable to wind one or more strips of the polymer substrate () onto one or more rolls (). The slitting machine () is operable to carry out a method for forming rolls () of coated films ().

Slitting machines and methods for forming rolls of coated films therewith

According to one or more embodiments of the present disclosure, a coated film may be made by a process that may include applying an uncured polyurethane precursor between a polyolefin film and a release liner such that a first surface of the release liner is in contact with the uncured polyurethane precursor, curing the uncured polyurethane precursor to form a cured polyurethane layer positioned between the polyolefin film and the release liner, and removing the release liner to form the coated film comprising the polyolefin film and the cured polyurethane layer. The first surface of the release liner may have an optical finish. The curing may impart an optical finish to the cured polyurethane layer substantially similar to the optical finish of the first surface of the release liner.

Processes for making coated films and solventless polyurethane precursors that may be used to make coated films

A two-component solventless polyurethane adhesive composition including (A) at least one isocyanate component and (B) at least one polyol component. The isocyanate component (A) comprises an isocyanate prepolymer that is the reaction product of (Ai) a polyisocyanate and (Aii) an isocyanate-reactive component; wherein the isocyanate-reactive component comprises (Aiia) at least one polyol having a functionality greater than two, (Aiib) at least one aromatic polyester polyol having a functionality of greater than two, and (Aiic) at least one hydrophobic polyol. The polyol component (B) comprises (Bi) at least one polyether polyol having a functionality greater than two, (Bii) at least one aromatic polyester polyol transesterified with a natural oil, and (Biii) at least one phosphate ester polyol. A method for forming a laminate is also disclosed, the method comprising the steps of: (I) mixing the above reactants (components (A) and (B)) to form a solventless adhesive composition, (II) applying a layer of the solventless adhesive composition to a surface of a first substrate, (III) bringing the layer of the solventless adhesive composition on the first substrate into contact with a surface of a second substrate to form a laminate, and (IV) curing the solventless adhesive composition. A laminate comprising the above solventless adhesive composition is also disclosed.
