A server receives a request to play a selected playlist from a first electronic device associated with a host listener. The playlist includes audio items having a common attribute. The server also receives an identity of a guest listener having a second electronic device and retrieves an indication of taste of the guest listener based on the received identity. The server selects an additional audio item based at least in part on the indication of taste of the guest listener and the common attribute of the audio items of the selected playlist, and incorporates the additional audio item into the selected playlist.

A media-playback device acquires a heart rate, selects a song with a first tempo, and initiates playback of the song. The song meets a set of qualification criteria and the first tempo is based on the heart rate, such as being equal to or less than the heart rate. The media-playback device also initiates playback of a binaural beat at a first frequency. Over a period of time, the binaural beat's first frequency is changed to a second frequency. Over the period of time, the first tempo can also be changed to a second tempo, where the second tempo is slower than the first tempo.

A method is performed at a server system. The method includes, while streaming a playlist at a first electronic device associated with a host listener, the playlist including media content items: automatically receiving an identity of a guest listener having a second electronic device, without explicit input from the guest listener after the second electronic device comes within range of the first electronic device; selecting an additional media content item based at least in part on the identity of the guest listener; and incorporating the additional media content item into the selected playlist.

A system and methods for acquiring cadence and selecting a song version based on the acquired cadence are disclosed. If the system detects a new cadence, then a new song version that corresponds to the new cadence can be played. The new song version playback can start in a corresponding position as the location of playback in a currently-playing song version. A method comprises obtaining a playlist that comprises a plurality of audio items, and dividing the playlist into a plurality of coherent groups, wherein each coherent group comprises a respective sequence of audio items of the plurality of audio items with a common attribute. For a respective coherent group of the plurality of coherent groups, the method comprises determining a parameter value of a first audio item of the respective sequence and adjusting a parameter value of a second audio item of the respective sequence based on the determined parameter value of the first audio item, to form a transition between the first and second audio items. The first and second audio items are adjacent in the respective sequence. The transition is provided to a second electronic device for playback.

Systems, devices, apparatuses, components, methods, and techniques for identifying media content for playback during a repetitive motion activity are provided. An example media-playback device includes a media-output device that plays media content items and a repetitive-motion activity content identification engine. The repetitive-motion activity content identification engine is configured to: review media content items to identify the media content items that are conducive to performing repetitive-motion activities; and select certain media content items from the media content items, the certain media content items being conducive to performing the repetitive-motion activities.
