Methods and systems for predicting velocities of both a lead vehicle and an ego vehicle along a travel route. The ego vehicle generates a velocity profile for the ego vehicle and a velocity prediction for the lead vehicle, and uses the ego vehicle velocity profile and the lead vehicle velocity prediction to estimate position and velocity of the ego vehicle in the travel route. Preview information from a navigation system is used and may include velocity limitations for the travel route derived from the travel route characteristics. Driver actions are used when generating the ego vehicle velocity profile by calculating a virtual velocity setpoint for the ego vehicle.

Driver and lead vehicle prediction model

Hybrid vehicles and control methods for hybrid vehicles. The vehicles and methods are adapted for use with restricted emissions zones, including zero emission zones. The battery state of charge for a hybrid vehicle is controlled to enable passage through a zero emissions zone without the use of the engine in the zero emissions zone. Multiple approaches to the analysis are highlighted.

Predictive power split with zero-emission zone handling

Methods, vehicles and systems for managing vehicle velocity along routes having traffic lights. The behavior of an individual vehicle is adjusted to account for surrounding vehicles to avoid inefficient outcomes across a group of vehicles. A vehicle is configured to determine the presence of other vehicles in a defined following distance, and uses the presence of such other vehicles to adjust its own travel strategy, with or without communication or coordination with, or control over, the other vehicles.

Non-selfish traffic lights passing advisory systems

Methods and systems for hybrid vehicle control. A high-level controller and a low-level controller are provided. The high-level controller uses preview information and a model of the low-level controller to calculate optimized tuning parameters for the low-level controller. The low-level controller uses driver inputs and current operating states to calculate optimized torque split for the hybrid engine.

Hierarchical optimal controller for predictive power split

Methods and systems for operating a hybrid vehicle having a first power source that uses a rechargeable battery and a second power source that uses a fuel. Preview information relating to upcoming road and traffic is used to generate a speed reference. A transmission torque reference is calculated using the speed reference and upcoming road information. A predictive power split plan is then determined by optimizing use of the first and second power sources to satisfy the transmission torque reference. At least a first sample of the predictive power split plan is then implemented.

Energy efficient predictive power split for hybrid powertrains

New and/or alternative approaches to physical plant performance control that can account for the health of the physical plant. In one example, a control algorithm is enhanced by inclusion of terms related to optimized performance and terms related to physical plant health. In another example, a performance optimized control solution is determined, a maximum allowed deviation is defined, and a final solution for physical plant control is determined taking into account health factors to minimize health impacts within the maximum allowed deviation from optimized performance, using for example a two-stage analysis. Another example uses a two level system with a low level controller and a supervisory controller, in which the supervisory controller observes health impacts of ongoing operations managed by the low level controller, and modifies one or more parameters used by the low level controller.

Health conscious controller

New and/or alternative approaches to physical plant performance control that can account for the health of the physical plant. A physical plant may be controlled by configurable controller, which may further comprise a low level controller associated with a higher level controller such as an Engine Control Unit (ECU). The ECU uses modeling to calculate an estimated operating value of a first parameter in the physical plant, and also uses a sensor to measure an operating value of the first parameter. The measured and modeled values are compared to determine the state of health (SOH) of the physical plant or a component thereof. The SOH may be stored, transmitted, or used to modify one or more control values used by the low level controller.

System for turbocharger performance monitoring and adaptation

New and/or alternative approaches to engine performance control that can account for the need to robustly monitor performance and/or operation of the physical plant and actuators thereof, while avoiding or limiting performance degradation. Model predictive control (MPC) or other control configuration such as proportional-integral-derivative control may be used to control the system by identifying a performance optimized control solution. In some examples, a modification to the performance optimized solution analysis is made to weight control solutions in favor of robust monitoring conditions. In other examples, the performance optimized solution is post-processed and modified to favor robust monitoring conditions.

Control system with diagnostics monitoring for engine control

Methods and systems that monitor an actuator state of wear. One or more observations are made as to one or more extremum positions of the actuator to determine a reference extremum position when the actuator is not worn. As the actuator becomes worn, the difference between a present extremum position and the reference is used to monitor actuator wear. Actuator wear may be observed to identify or predict a need for maintenance or replacement, and/or may be used in determining health impacts of control system solutions.
