A sharpness emphasizing method and machine used in a picture reproducing machine such as a color separator, wherein a sharpness emphasizing signal is prepared from a main signal and an unsharp signal, which are obtained by scanning an original picture, in a sharpness emphasizing signal circuit, wherein a corrected sharpness emphasizing signal is selectively produced from the sharpness emphasizing signal depending on the leap of the unsharp signal in a sharpness emphasizing component pickup circuit, and wherein the corrected sharpness emphasizing signal is added to the main signal in a composer circuit, thereby obtaining a picture signal whose sharpness is emphasized in its detail portions.

A color scanner comprising an original picture cylinder, a scanning head, a reproduction picture cylinder, and a recording head; and said device having several parallel frame plates with holes simultaneously bored through them in the same relative positions, bearings mounted to the holes, and guide shafts and bearing shafts mounted in the bearings. A single feed screw mounted through said openings in at least some of said frame plates moving the scanning and recording heads synchronously in the axial direction of the cylinders.

An aperture plate for use in the exposure head of a picture scanning reproducer which constructs an image by exposure of a film attached to a rotating drum in scanning mode, the aperture of which plate has a shape incorporating parallel lines and end portions consisting of twin lines opening up away from a cusp, which in some embodiments may be exponential curves, whereby overlap effects in the constructed image are substantially eliminated.

A picture scanner using a light beam which has first passed through a mask plate to scan a picture fixed to a revolving cylinder is provided with a system for adjusting the transverse position of the light source, consisting of a mirror which can be pivoted into the path of the light beam, a screen on which an image of the light source and an image of the mask plate can be simultaneously projected, and means for focusing both these images into the same plane.
