A solid catalyst component prepared by admixing and reacting, with a reaction product which has been obtained by suspending diethoxymagnesium in an alkylbenzene and bringing the suspension into contact with titanium tetrachloride in an amount less than 1 in terms of volume ratio to the alkylbenzene, a phthaloyl dichloride at a temperature within the range between 80.degree. C. and 125.degree. C., washing the resultant solid substance with an alkylbenzene, and reacting the solid substance in the presence of an alkylbenzene with titanium tetrachloride in an amount less than 1 in terms of volume ratio to the alkylbenzene as well as an olefin polymerization catalyst which comprises (A) the above specified solid catalyst component, (B) a silicon compound of the general formula: SiR.sub.m (OR').sub.4-m wherein R is a group selected from an alkyl group, a cycloalkyl group, an aryl group and vinyl group, R' is an alkyl group and m is zero or an integer of 1-3, with the proviso that when m is 2 or 3, plural R groups may be identical or different, that when m is zero or 1, plural R' groups may be identical or different and/or that when R is an alkyl group, R may be identical with or different from R', and (C) an organoaluminum compound of the general formula: R'.sub.n AlX.sub.3-n wherein R' is an alkyl group, X is a halogen atom and n is an integer of 1-3, with the proviso that when n is 2 or 3, plural R' groups may be identical or different. This catalyst exhibits an extremely high polymerization activity combined with a high stereospecific performance and enables the production of stereoregular olefin polymers with a negligible residual chlorine content in a high yield.

A solid catalyst component for olefin polymerization catalysts prepared by suspending diethoxymagnesium (a) in an aromatic hydrocarbon (b) which is liquid at normal temperature and bringing the suspension into a first contact with titanium tetrachloride (c) to form a product and bringing it into a second contact with tianium tetrachloride (c) in such manner that a diester (d) of an aromatic dicarboxylic acid and calcium chloride (e) are allowed to coexist at any stage of the above suspending and/or contacts, the calcium chloride (e) being used in an amount of 1-2 grams per gram of the diethoxymagnesium (a). This solid catalyst component exhibits, when applied to the polymerization of olefins, a surprisingly enhanced polymerization activity per titanium atom and a high stereospecific performance and scarcely necessitates any deashing treatment, thus affording a great economical advantage.

Solid catalyst component for olefin polymerization catalysts

A solid catalyst component for olefin polymerization catalysts prepared by subjecting diethoxymagnesium (a), calcium chloride (b) and a silicon compound (c) of the general formula: Si(OR).sub.4 (wherein R is an alkyl or aryl group) together to a contact treatment in the presence of an organic solvent (d), suspending the treated composition in an aromatic hydrocarbon (e) which is liquid at normal temperature and bringing the suspension into a first contact with titanium tetrachloride (f) to form a product and bringing it to a second contact with titanium tetrachloride (f) in such manner that a diester (g) of an aromatic dicarboxylic acid is allowed to coexist at any stage of the above suspending and/or contacts with the exception of the contact treatment, the calcium chloride (b) being used in an amount of 1-2 g per gram of the diethoxymagnesium (a). This solid catalyst component exhibits, when applied to the polymerization of olefins, a surprisingly enhanced polymerization activity per titanium atom and a high stereospecific performance and scarcely necessitates any deashing treatment, thus affording a great economical advantage.

A solid catalyst component prepared by washing a solid substance, which has been obtained by reacting diethoxymagnesium (a) suspended in an alkylbenzene (b) with titanium tetrachloride (c) in an amount less than 1/2 of the alkylbenzene (b) in a ratio by volume and a phthalic diester (d) at a temperature within the range of 80.degree.-135.degree. C., with an alkylbenzene, and thereafter reacting the solid substance in a presence of an alkylbenzene (b) with titanium tetrachloride (c) in an amount less than 1/2 of the alkylbenzene (b) in a ratio by volume as well as an olefin polymerization catalyst comprising (A) the solid catalyst component specified above, (B) a silicon compound of the general formula:

A process for preparation of a component of a catalyst for polymerization of .alpha.-olefins is disclosed. The process comprises the steps of heating a titanium containing component during and/or after milling operation thereof. The titanium-containing catalyst component thus produced makes it possible to produce polymers having a high stereoregularity in high specific yield.

A process for the preparation of the former catalyst component of a catalyst for the polymerization of olefins composed of a titanium-based catalyst component and an organo aluminium compound is disclosed, which process comprises suspending (a) a fatty acid salt of magnesium and (b) dialkoxymagnesium into (c) a liquid halogenated hydrocarbon to form a first suspension, and adding said first suspension to (d) a titanium halide of the general formula: TiX.sub.4, wherein X represents a halogen atom, to be contacted for reaction to form a first reaction mixture, (e) an electron donor compound being present in at least one of the first suspension, the titanium halide and the first reaction mixture; or suspending the dialkoxymagnesium into the liquid halogenated hydrocarbon to form a second suspension, and adding said second suspension to a mixture of the titanium halide and the fatty acid salt of magnesium to be contacted for reaction to form a second reaction mixture, the electron donor compound being present in at least one of the second suspension, the mixture of the titanium halide and the fatty acid salt of magnesium, and the second reaction mixture. In the polymerization of olefins by use of the former catalyst component, both the amount of catalyst residues in the produced polymer and halogen content therein are greatly reduced with high polymerization activity per unit weight of the former catalyst component and with high yield of stereoregular polymer.

Process for the preparation of catalyst component for the polymerization

A process for the preparation of the former catalyst component of a catalyst for the polymerization of olefins composed of a titanium-based catalyst component and an organo aluminium compound is disclosed. The former catalyst component can readily be produced by contacting (a) a fatty acid salt of magnesium, (b) an electron donor compound and (c) a titanium halide. In the polymerization of olefins by use of the former catalyst component, both the amount of catalyst residues in the produced polymer and halogen content therein are greatly reduced with high polymerization activity per unit weight of the former catalyst component and with high yield of stereoregular polymer.

A process for preparation of a component of a catalyst for polymerization of .alpha.-olefins comprising adding (a) oxygen and the reaction product of titanium tetrachloride and an organic ether, to (b) titanium trichloride or to a composition of titanium trichloride and a metal halide, and milling the mixture.
