A motor with a speed reducer, comprising a motor main body including a rotary shaft; a speed reducer portion including a worm and a worm wheel, a housing including a housing main body and a housing cover, the housing main body accommodating the speed reducer portion and being open to one side in an axial direction of the worm wheel; a circuit board accommodated in the housing, a power component disposed at one side of the circuit board; and a heat-receiving portion disposed at the housing main body, the heat-receiving portion being adjacent to the worm and disposed such that a part of the heat-receiving portion overlaps with the worm as viewed from the side thereof where the opening of the housing main body is disposed, and the heat-receiving portion touching against a face at the other side of the circuit board and receiving heat generated by the power component.

A bearing is positioned relative to a rotatable shaft by inserting the bearing over the rotatable shaft until the bearing contacts a flange of the rotatable shaft, which is cold-forged on the rotatable shaft. The bearing is fixed to the rotatable shaft such that a swaged portion is formed in an outer peripheral portion of the rotatable shaft on an opposite axial side of the bearing, which is axially opposite from the flange, by swaging a corresponding part of the outer peripheral portion of the rotatable shaft such that the corresponding part of the outer peripheral portion of the rotatable shaft is radially outwardly bulged to form the swaged portion, and the swaged portion is axially pressed against the bearing to axially securely clamp the bearing between the swaged portion and the flange.

In a speed reducing electric motor, a speed reducing gear unit has a sensor magnet device, which is fixed to a worm wheel and includes an inner ring magnet, an outer ring magnet and connecting portions. The inner ring magnet is placed along a predetermined first imaginary circle. The outer ring magnet is placed along a predetermined second imaginary circle, which is coaxial with the first imaginary circle and has a diameter that is smaller or larger than that of the first imaginary circle. The connecting portions connect between the inner ring magnet and the outer ring magnet. The sensor magnet device is fixed to the worm wheel by a magnet fixing structure.

A brushless motor includes a motor holder and a case connected thereto. A ventilation chamber is defined between the motor holder and the case. The ventilation chamber includes an air inlet portion, an air outlet portion and water draining portions. The air inlet portion is in communication with the atmosphere. The air outlet portion is in communication with a stator. The water draining portions drain water introduced into the ventilation chamber out of the motor. The motor provides a flow of cooling air passing through the ventilation chamber toward the stator for cooling heat generated during rotation of a rotor. The motor holder and the case have guide ribs arranged in the ventilation chamber to define an air passage for guiding the cooling air from the air inlet portion to the air outlet portion. The water draining portions are located outside of the air passage.

A switching mechanism energizes a motor in response to selective actuation of switches in order to rotate an output shaft of the motor by an angle dependent upon the particular switch which is actuated. A base body connected to an output shaft of the motor carries slide terminals that slide on conductor paths of a stationary circuit board when the motor is energized. The conductor paths are connected to respective ones of the switches so that the motor is energized in response to the contact of a slide terminal with the conductor path associated with an actuated switch, and is de-energized when that slide terminal reaches an end edge portion of that conductor path. The end edge portions of the conductor paths are arranged substantially on the same circumference relative to the axis of rotation of the output shaft.

A position-detecting device is formed by mounting a plate onto a base body. The plate carries a plurality of slide terminals adapted to slide on contact paths of a cooperating member. Sections of the plate which carry respective groups of the slide terminals are interconnected by narrow portions of the plate. After the plate has been mounted on the body so as to situate the slide terminals in predetermined locations, the narrow portions are served to seperate the plate sections into the separate brushes, each having a respective group of slide terminals.
