A method for manufacturing a light-emitting device a first solution including a first solvent, quantum dots, a ligand, and a first inorganic precursor, the quantum dots each including a core and a first shell performing first heating of raising to a first temperature or higher, the first temperature being a higher temperature of a melting point of the ligand and a boiling point of the first solvent, and performing second heating of raising to a second temperature, the second temperature being higher than the first temperature and being a temperature at which the first inorganic precursor epitaxially grows and a second shell coating the first shell is formed to form a plurality of first quantum dots, and wherein a plurality of second quantum dots each including, in a core, the same material as a material of the second shells are also formed.

A liquid crystal display device includes a vertical alignment liquid crystal layer, first and second substrates, first and second electrodes, and a pixel region which includes first, second, third and fourth liquid crystal domains in which liquid crystal molecules are tilted in first, second, third and fourth directions, respectively. Liquid crystal display device and display device substrate

The liquid crystal display device of this invention includes picture element regions each defined by a first electrode provided on a first substrate and a second electrode provided on a second substrate so as to oppose the first electrode via a liquid crystal layer sandwiched therebetween. In each of the picture element regions, the first electrode includes a solid portion and a nonsolid portion. The liquid crystal display device further includes a pair of polarizing plates disposed with polarization axes thereof crossing each other substantially perpendicularly. The polarization axis of one of the pair of polarizing plates is substantially parallel to a direction in which the solid portion extends. When a voltage is applied between the first electrode and the second electrode, in each of the picture element regions, liquid crystal molecules of the liquid crystal layer are in a radially-inclined orientation state.

There is provided a liquid crystal display device of high picture quality with high brightness and small display unevenness. A vertical alignment type liquid crystal display device which has a plurality of pixels includes: a first electrode which includes, in each of the plurality of pixels, a plurality of first branch portions extending in a first direction and a plurality of second branch portions extending in a second direction that is different from the first direction; a second electrode disposed so as to oppose the first electrode; and a liquid crystal layer interposed between the first electrode and the second electrode, wherein a width of each of the plurality of first branch portions and the plurality of second branch portions is in a range not less than 1.4 &#x3bc;m and not more than 8.0 &#x3bc;m.

Disclosed is a liquid crystal display panel which causes no gray scale inversion, even when obliquely viewed, and which realizes suppression of a gamma characteristics change and a chromaticity change. The liquid crystal display panel is made of a pair of substrates, at least one of which includes a plurality of pixel electrodes containing red, green and blue pixel electrodes, and a liquid crystal layer arranged between the pair of substrates. The liquid crystal layer is divided for each pixel into a first region and a second region, which have liquid crystal molecules different in the directions of inclination from each other. Both of the liquid crystal molecules positioned in the first region and the second region are oriented either vertically or horizontally when the pair of substrates is viewed in the front direction, and are oriented obliquely with respect to the substrate surface and symmetrically of each other when the pair of substrates is viewed in the cross-sectional direction. The liquid crystal layer has a smaller thickness in the regions corresponding to the blue pixel electrodes than those in the regions corresponding to the green and red pixel electrodes.

Liquid crystal display panel

A liquid crystal display device includes: a vertical alignment liquid crystal layer; first and second substrates facing each other with the liquid crystal layer interposed; first and second electrodes arranged on the first and second substrates to face the liquid crystal layer; and at least one alignment film in contact with the liquid crystal layer. A pixel region includes a first liquid crystal domain in which liquid crystal molecules are tilted in a first direction around the center of a plane, and approximately at the middle of the thickness, of the liquid crystal layer responsive to a voltage applied. The first liquid crystal domain is close to at least a part of an edge of the first electrode. The part includes a first edge portion in which an azimuthal direction, perpendicular to the part and pointing toward the inside of the first electrode, defines an angle greater than 90 degrees to the first direction. The first or second substrate has an opaque member including a first opaque portion for selectively shielding at least a part of the first edge portion from incoming light.
