A method for the production of a porous cross-linked polymer material by the polymerization of an HIPE containing a cross-linking agent, characterized by the fact at least one species of the cross-linking agent is a compound having a double bond equivalent f not less than 120 g/mol. The cross-linking agent is preferred to be a compound possessed of an alkylene oxide moiety or a vinyl polymer containing not less than two polymerizing double bonds in the molecular unit. Thus, it is made possible to produce a porous cross-linked polymer material excellent in absorbency and flexibility, permit the HIPE to be polymerized in a short time, and therefore improve the efficiency of production.

Method for production of porous cross-linked polymer material

An object of this invention is to provide a method for the production of a porous material by polymerizing a water-in-oil type high internal phase emulsion in a briefer time than a conventional technique without impairing the stability of the emulsion. The object of this invention can be accomplished by a method for the production of a porous material comprising a step of polymerizing a water-in-oil type high internal phase emulsion containing a polymerization initiator, wherein the polymerization initiator is a redox type initiator combining a water-soluble oxidizing agent and a reducing agent, the reducing agent is preparatorily added to form the emulsion, and thereafter the water-soluble oxidizing agent is added to the emulsion to polymerize the added emulsion.

Method for production of porous material

An object of this invention is to provide a method for the production of a porous material by polymerizing a water-in-oil type high internal phase emulsion in a briefer time than a conventional technique without impairing the stability of the emulsion. The object of this invention can be accomplished by a method for the production of a porous material comprising a step of polymerizing a water-in-oil type high internal phase emulsion containing a polymerization initiator, wherein the polymerization initiator is a redox type initiator combining an oil-soluble oxidizing agent and a reducing agent, either of the oil-soluble oxidizing agent or the reducing agent is preparatorily added to form the emulsion, and thereafter the remainder of the reducing agent or the oil-soluble oxidizing agent is added to the emulsion to polymerize the added emulsion.

An epoxy resin composition which is tough and has excellent heat resistance and adhesion is obtained by dispersing, in an epoxy resin, polymer particles with a glass transition temperature of lower than 20.degree. C. obtained by emulsion polymerization of a (meth)acrylic acid ester monomer by using, as an emulsifier, an end alkyl group-containing polymer with an acid value of greater than 200 or a salt thereof obtained by polymerization of a polymerizable monomer containing an unsaturated carboxylic acid in the presence of an alkyl mercaptan. The epoxy resin composition is useful, for example, as adhesives, molding materials, paints, sealants.

(Meth)acrylate polymer particles dispersed in epoxy resin

The present invention provides an acrylic polymer containing no surfactant, having little limitation in the polymer composition and being superior in heat resistance, processing operation performance and fluidity, and also provides use of the polymer and a production process. An acrylic polymer of present invention is obtained by the bulk polymerization, contains an acrylic acid-based monomer unit as a main component in its structure and has a Mn of 1,000 to 1,000,000, a glass transition temperature of -80.degree. C. or higher and a Mw/Mn ratio of 5 or less, and is appropriate for acrylic rubber, a pressure-sensitive adhesive, an alkali-soluble adhesive, an alkali-soluble film, an alkali-soluble injection molding or water ink. This polymer is produced by, in the presence of an inactive gas, carrying out the bulk polymerization of a starting material which contains a monomer component having an acrylic acid-based monomer as a main component and contains a sulfur compound of 0.001 to 20 parts by weight based on 100 parts by weight of the monomer component, and contains a polymerization initiator in the weight of one-third or less based on the sulfur compound.

Acrylic polymer, its use and process for producing it

The present invention yields a coating film excellent in adhesion, water resistance, solvent resistance and durability. A compound having a carboxyl group and a long-chain alkylthio group or a salt thereof is used as an emulsifier and emulsion polymerization is carried out using a polymerizable monomer or monomers having, within their molecule, a group reactive with a carboxyl group as raw materials for emulsion polymerization, whereby the resin produced by emulsion polymerization and the emulsifier react with each other efficiently on the occasion of film formation and form a crosslinked structure. When a compound having a polymerizable unsaturated group in addition to the carboxyl group and long-chain alkylthio group or a salt thereof is used as the emulsifier, not only the above-mentioned crosslinked structure is formed but also the polymerizable unsaturated group in the emulsifier will react with the unsaturated group in the polymerizable monomer or monomers in the manner of grafting.
