An integrated hermetically sealed turboexpander-generator comprises a hermetically sealed casing arrangement, a turboexpander, a compressor and an electric generator, arranged in the hermetically sealed casing arrangement along a common shaft line, supported by active magnetic bearings. Also disclosed is a thermodynamic system using the integrated hermetically sealed turboexpander-generator to convert waste heat from a waste heat source into electric power. The electric generator is arranged at one end of the common shaft line.

An integrated hermetically sealed turboexpander-generator comprises a hermetically sealed casing arrangement, a turboexpander, a compressor and an electric generator, arranged in the hermetically sealed casing arrangement along a common shaft line, supported by active magnetic bearings. Also disclosed is a thermodynamic system using the integrated hermetically sealed turboexpander-generator to convert waste heat from a waste heat source into electric power. One of the turboexpander and of the compressor comprises two sections arranged in an overhung configuration at the ends of the common shaft line.

The centrifugal compressor comprises a casing and a rotor arranged in the casing and configured to rotate around a vertical rotation axis. The rotor comprises at least one impeller having an impeller suction side and an impeller delivery side. The compressor includes a gas inlet and a gas outlet, as well as a gas flow path extending from the gas inlet to the gas outlet. An inlet plenum extends from the gas inlet towards the impeller suction side. At least one suction tube having a lower suction end and an upper discharge end is arranged such that the lower suction end thereof is arranged at a bottom of the inlet plenum. The suction tube extends upwardly towards the impeller suction side.

According to one aspect of the present disclosure, a turbo-compressor () is provided. The turbo-compressor () includes: a rotor assembly () extending in an axial direction A and comprising at least one impeller () configured for pressurizing a gas; a magnetic bearing () supporting the rotor assembly () on a high-pressure side () of the at least one impeller (); and a cooling passage () configured for directing a first portion of the pressurized gas (P) through a bearing gap () of the magnetic bearing () for cooling the magnetic bearing (). According to one aspect of the present disclosure, a turbomachine () is provided. The turbomachine includes: a rotor extending in an axial direction and comprising a driven side configured to be connected to a driving unit and a second side opposite the driven side; a housing extending around at least a portion of the rotor, wherein a main flow path for a process fluid extends between the rotor and the housing; a sealing arrangement, particularly a dry gas seal, configured for sealing a gap between the rotor and the housing at the driven side of the rotor; and a first magnetic bearing supporting the second side of the rotor. A fluid passage for a portion of the process fluid extends from the main flow path through a bearing gap of the first magnetic bearing. According to a further aspect, a method of operating a turbomachine is described.

A turbomachine has a casing where liquid may accumulate; at least one liquid level detector is located inside the casing for automatically detecting liquid accumulated inside the casing during operation of the turbomachine; the liquid level detector may be arranged for detecting one or two or three or four liquid levels inside the casing; the liquid level detector is typically connected to an electronic unit at least for automatically signaling the liquid level. The electronic unit controls at least one valve for automatically discharging the accumulated liquid from the casing; in this way, the status of the turbomachine is not only monitored but also managed.

A controller for a rotary machine includes a processor and a memory coupled to the processor. The memory is configured to store operating modes of the controller. The operating modes include a normal operating mode and a fault tolerant operating mode. The controller is configured to receive a signal from at least one sensor and determine an operating state of the rotary machine based on the signal. The controller is also configured to switch the operating modes based on the determined operating state of the rotary machine and regulate at least one electromagnetic bearing and at least one flow control device. The controller is further configured to adjust at least one of the at least one electromagnetic bearing and the at least one flow control device in the fault tolerant operating mode.
