The present invention is systems and methods for interactive wagering using multiple types of user interfaces. Preferred embodiments of these systems and methods incorporate a wagering data hub which controls the flow of data relating to wagers, wagering events, and wagering account and facilitates the use of a variety of user interfaces such as graphical user interfaces and interactive voice response interfaces. For example, a user of the present invention may use a television set-top box, a computer, a telephone, and/or any other suitable device. To communicate with the wagering data hub, television set-top boxes preferably use a two-way cable system, computers preferably use a computer network, and telephones preferably use a telephone network, although each may use any suitable mechanism or combination of mechanisms to communicate with wagering data hub.

Systems and methods for interactive wagering using multiple types of user interfaces

The present invention is systems and methods for interactive wagering. A system and method for locating and using multiple routes to transmit sub-packets of data from a source node to a destination node in an ad-hoc network, thus preventing intermediate nodes in any one transmission path from intercepting a useful amount of information. The system and method routes communications between a source node and a destination node via multiple routes, selected in a random fashion. Further protection is achieved by breaking data packets into sub-packets requiring reassembly at the destination node.

An interactive wagering application is provided that allows users to place parimutuel wagers on future events. An interactive wagering system may enable the user to place a wager on the future event by providing multiple wagering pools. When a future event wagering pool is closed, final odds and payouts may be determined for that wagering pool and a new wagering pool, for the same future event, may be made available. The interactive wagering application may also monitor the user's activities to create a user profile. The interactive wagering application may use the user profile to find future race events that may be of interest to the user. The interactive wagering application may also provide the user with the ability to search for future races according to the future race date, race name, or any other suitable criteria.

Systems and methods for placing parimutuel wagers on future events

A interactive wagering system is provided in which a user at user equipment may place electronic wagers with an interactive wagering application. The wagers may be horse race wagers. The interactive wagering application may handle wagers placed at multiple totalisators. The user may be provided with an opportunity to select a desired totalisator at which to place wagers or the interactive wagering application may automatically apply tote selection criteria to determine which of the multiple totalisators wagers are to be placed with. The user may review information on available odds and other information for each of the different totalisators. Automatic totalisator selection may be based on odds, tax consequences, licensing status, pool values, bulk benefits, user preference, available wager types, or other suitable criteria.

An interactive wagering system is provided that promotes wagering to users at user equipment. The user equipment may be based on a set-top box and television, a personal computer, a cellular telephone with a display, or other such devices. Wagering may be promoted by notifying the user of an opportunity to place a wager on a given race. Wagering may also be promoted by providing the user with an on-screen opportunity to sign up for a wagering television channel or interactive wagering service. The on-screen promotions that are displayed to the user may be targeted based on the television programming that is being displayed or the user's interests. The user's activities may be monitored to collect information on the user's interests. If a particular race or the like is being discussed during a television program, the user may be provided with an opportunity to wager on that race.

Systems and methods are provided for an interactive wagering application that restricts wagering access. The restrictions may be based on user-defined restrictions on the location of the user equipment or any other suitable criterion. The interactive wagering application may compare blackout information and user equipment location information. When blackout information and location information match, wagering access may be restricted. An interactive wagering system may verify that the user equipment is in a location where wagering is permitted. If verified, the user equipment may be granted a location verification token. The location verification token may indicate to the interactive wagering application that the user may be provided with wagering access. User-defined wagering restrictions may also be used to restrict wagering access.

A system and method for improving the ability of a wireless communications network, such as a packet-switched data communications network, to provide service to mobile user terminals. The system and method employs a mobile access point, adapted for use with the packet-switched communications network comprising at least one fixed access point, to provide a mobile wireless user terminal with access to the network, and a method for using the same. The mobile access point comprises at least one transceiver, which can be mounted to a mobile vehicle and receive substantially constant power from the vehicle, and which is adapted to transmit and receive communications signals to and from the wireless user terminal, and to operate as a communications link between the wireless user terminal and the fixed access point, to provide the wireless user terminal with access to the network via the communications link. The transceiver is further adapted to provide a second communications link between the user terminal an another user terminal, or between the mobile access point and another mobile access point of the network. The mobile access point further includes technology, such as global positioning system (GPS) technology, which adapted to determine a geographic location of the mobile access point.

An ad-hoc, peer-to-peer radio access system having a series of remote terminals, where each remote terminal is capable of forming a node, or hop, of the routing of a call made by one of the series of terminals. The call is routed along a routing path of terminals based on the class-of-service. If the call to be transmitted is a voice call, then a routing bath having low latency will be selected. If the call is a video transmission, then a routing path of low bit-error without excessive latency will be chosen. If the call is a data transmission, then the least-energy routing path will be chosen.

Prioritized-routing for an ad-hoc, peer-to-peer, mobile radio access system based on battery-power levels and type of service

A system and method for improving the ability of a wireless communications network, such as a packet-switched data communications network, to provide service to mobile user terminals. The system and method employs a mobile access point, adapted for use with the packet-switched communications network, to provide a mobile wireless user terminal with access to the network, and a method for using the same. The mobile access point can be mounted to a mobile vehicle and receives substantially constant power from the vehicle, and is adapted to transmit and receive communications signals to and from wireless user terminals, fixed access points and other networks and mobile access points. The mobile access point includes at least one or more transceivers, which allows the access point to support multiple wireless communication protocols. A first protocol may be supported allowing network access, and a second protocol may be used for backhaul service.

Interactive wagering systems and methods with multiple television feeds are provided. A plurality of television feeds may be related to a race and race-related characteristics. A television feed may carry television feed information, which may provide sufficient information to allow a user to select an appropriate television feed for a wager or to allow the system to automatically select an appropriate feed for a wager. This information may be consistent across interfaces on all platforms or may be customized to each platform.

Systems and methods for cross-platform access to a wagering interface

A system and method for enabling a node, such as a mobile user terminal, in a wireless communications network to route data packets to other nodes in the network based on the information contained in the data packets. The system and method employs a node, adapted for use in a wireless communications network, which comprises a controller that is adapted to examine a content of a data packet addressed to a destination node, that can have an Internet protocol (IP) address to which the data packet is addressed. Based on the content of the data packet, the controller selects a routing path including at least one of a plurality of other nodes in the network via which the data packet is to be routed to the destination node. The controller can compare the content of the data packet to routing information stored in a memory, and select the routing path based on the comparison. Depending on the whether the content is voice, video, file transfer protocol or bulk file transfer type data, to name a few, the controller can select as the routing path a routing path via which the data packet is deliverable from the node to the destination node with low latency, low bit error rate, or in a best effort manner.
