A pump ( ) has a housing which forms a pump chamber ( ) having a wall ( ). Electromagnetically driven diaphragm pump

A filtration device for use in filtering air used to purge a vapor storage canister used in connection with a fuel vapor recovery system of an automobile. The device includes a housing. In some instances, the housing may be integral to another component. The housing has a chamber having an arcuate inner surface. Air flowing into the chamber through an inlet port strikes the arcuate interior surface and is redirected such that the air rotates in said chamber. The centrifugal force of the rotating air filters out any contaminants of sufficient mass contained therein. The filtered air is removed via an outlet port positioned near the longitudinal-axis of the chamber. Contaminants removed from the air fall due to gravity or a secondary air flow pattern into a collection portion of the housing.

Filtration device for use with a fuel vapor recovery system

A pump ( ) includes a chamber ( ) communicating with a fluid inlet ( ) and a fluid outlet ( ) above the centerline thereof to minimize dead air space where air bubbles might form. A connector ( ) having a bend or elbow ( ) is formed at the fluid inlet ( ). Upon actuation of a solenoid ( ), a plunger ( ) carrying a diaphragm ( ) is moved to draw fluid around the elbow ( ), through a valve ( ) positioned at the fluid inlet ( ), through the chamber ( ), and out of the pump ( ) through a valve ( ) positioned at the fluid outlet ( ). The energy of the fluid which might otherwise create a water hammer effect is absorbed by the elbow ( ) prior to reaching the pump ( ).

Fluid metering pump

An apparatus and method for controlling a solenoid valve wherein the flow rate of the valve relative to a specific percent duty cycle may be varied. The controller is such that after the desired flow of the solenoid valve is determined, the frequency and percent duty cycle of an output signal controlling the solenoid valve is varied. Such a controller utilizes varying frequencies to provide multiple slope flow rates with a single passage solenoid valve.

Apparatus and method for controlling a solenoid valve

A housing (10), (54) defines a well which holds a diaphragm assembly (12). The diaphragm assembly has a stud portion (14) that extends through an aperture in the housing and is biased into the housing by a spring (16). The stud portion defines a channel (18) which is received in a slot between arms of a calibration plate (20). Movement of the calibration plate transverse to the axis of the stud portion engages a cam surface (24) to position the diaphragm, more particularly a dielectric button (34) which engages a switch control member (50). As a fluid in a bulb (32) expands, it causes the diaphragm to expand, moving the control member (50) and one end of control spring portion (48) causing contacts (46, 52) to open. When the temperature of the bulb reaches the temperature set by the calibration plate, the control spring portion flexes opening the contacts. To reset the switch and close the contacts, a reset member (92) is depressed. A coil spring (94) limits the reset pressure such that the switch can only be reset or closed when the sensed temperature drops sufficiently. An emergency shut off member (100) engages the spring blade member (44) directly opening the contacts without regard to the sensed temperature. In a fixed temperature embodiment (FIG. 5), a pivot member (110) defines the flex point of spring blade member to determine whether the switch works in a snap acting mode or a slow make/break mode.

Thermostatically controlled switch

A housing (10), (54) defines a well which holds a diaphragm assembly (12). The diaphragm assembly has a stud portion (14) that extends through an aperture in the housing and is biased into the housing by a spring (16). The stud portion defines a channel (18) which is received in a slot between arms of a calibration plate (20). Movement of the calibration plate transverse to the axis of the stud portion engages a cam surface (24) to position the diaphragm, more particularly a dielectric button (34) which engages a switch control member (50). As a fluid in a bulb (32) expands, it causes the diaphragm to expand, moving the control member (50) and one end of spring portion (48) causing contacts (46, 52) to open. The temperature or degree of diaphragm extension at which the switch contacts open is adjusted by rotating a shaft (60). As the stem is rotated, a cam follower (76) and cam (70) interact causing a dielectric actuator (64 ) to change the bias force, hence pivot point, of spring elements (44).
