An inside of an incinerator body into which sludge is fed is divided into a lower portion, a portion above the lower portion, and a top portion in a height direction. The lower portion serves as a pyrolysis zone for supplying fluidizing air having an air ratio of 1.1 or less together with fuel to thermally decompose the sludge while fluidizing the sludge. The portion above the lower portion serves as an over bed combustion zone for supplying only combustion air having an air ratio of 0.1 to 0.3 to form a local high temperature place to decompose NO. The top portion serves as a perfect combustion zone for perfectly combusting unburned contents. The quantity of NO generated during sludge incineration can be drastically reduced while maintaining the use quantity of auxiliary fuel at the same level as that of a conventional incineration method.

A cooling apparatus used, for instance, for a laser which is low in the consumption of energy and can be made small in size. The cooling apparatus includes: an outside air - water heat exchanger (or outside air cooler 15) as a first cooler; a refrigerant - water heat exchanger (or refrigerating cooler 27) as a second cooler; an outside air temperature sensor (22) for detecting an outside air temperature; and a control section (5) which, according to an outside air temperature, selects a refrigerator-cooler joint use mode for operating both the outside air cooler (15) and the refrigerating cooler (27), or an outside air cooler single use mode for operating only the outside air cooler (15) with the refrigerating cooler (27) stopped.

A method for manufacturing CRT interior parts made of material such as of iron or steel has the steps of: introducing hydrocarbon and air into a conversion furnace, thereby producing an exothermic gas; cooling the exothermic gas to a predetermined temperature higher than a dew point of the exothermic gas; and introducing the exothermic gas at a temperature higher than the dew point into a blackening furnace which houses the CRT interior parts, thereby producing a blackened film on a surface of each of the CRT interior parts. The blackened film is mainly consisting of Fe.sub.3 O.sub.4. The temperature of the exothermic gas, when introduced in the blackening furnace, may be higher than a boiling point of each component composing the exothermic gas.

An industrial robot includes a plurality of motors provided at an end of a hollow link, torque transmission units provided within said link for transmitting rotational torques of the plurality of motors, and rotary units for a plurality of independent rotational motions in response to each of the motors. The rotary units provided at the other end of the hollow link and are drivingly connected to the torque transmission units. The rotary units comprise a first rotary device having a first box and rotating about an axis of the hollow link, a second rotary device having a second box and rotating about a rotary axis which obliquely intersects with a rotary axis of the first device, and a third rotary device having an output shaft and rotating about a rotary axis which intersects obliquely with the rotary axis of the second rotary device. The second rotary device includes a first transmission shaft (43a) one end portion of which is directly connected to the second box (66) and the other end portion of which is drivingly connected to one of the torque transmission units. The second rotary device substantially surrounds the third rotary device. Thus, the industrial robot may be made compact in size, light in weight and superior in performance.
