Before an electrode assembly is inserted into a quartz glass tube, a reinforcement bending process is applied to a metal foil. Even when a vibration load acts on the electrode assembly during the insertion of the electrode assembly into the quartz glass tube, the metal foil is not easily deformed, so that a rod electrode can be prevented from largely swinging together with the metal foil. Consequently, the position of a tip end portion of the rod electrode can be easily recognized by using a camera, whereby the degree of the insertion of the electrode assembly into the quartz glass tube can be correctly adjusted.

Arc tube and method of producing the same

An arc tube and method for forming an arc tube in which an electrode assembly including a tungsten electrode and a molybdenum foil are joined together in a partially overlapped state and pinch sealed into a pinch seal portion of the arc tube body to suppress leakage due to peeling of the molybdenum foil and prolong the life period of the arc tube. An overlapped length L of a tungsten electrode and a molybdenum foil is set to be 2D&lE;L &lE;0.8W with respect to the diameter D of the tungsten electrode and the width W of the molybdenum foil. In another embodiment, the distance L between the molybdenum foil and a discharge space is set to be B&lE;L &lE;0.8A with respect to the width A and the thickness B of a pinch seal portion.

Arc tube with pinch seal and dimensional relationship and method for forming the same

A pair of chucks, which grip end portions of a cylindrical glass tube blank, are moved by a chuck moving mechanism toward each other, so that softened glass in an intermediate portion of the cylindrical glass tube blank is gathered, thereby forming a shape that is suitable for blow molding a light emitting tube portion. In the approaching movement, the position of one chuck is detected by using a laser position detector, and a result of the detection is fed back to the chuck moving mechanism, so as to control the approach distances of the chucks. The laser position detector detects the position of the chuck itself. Therefore, even when the positional relationship between the chuck and the chuck moving mechanism is varied, or backlash or deformation occurs in the chuck moving mechanism, the correct position of the chuck still is detected irrespective of such variation, backlash or deformation. Consequently, it is possible to effectively prevent the approach distances of the chucks from deviating from a desired value.

Method of producing an arc tube

An electric light bulb with a base , including a positioning ring adapted to be fitted onto and mounted to a cylindrical-shaped base which holds a glass bulb enclosing therein filaments . The positioning ring includes elastic pieces and weld pieces formed on a fitting hole , through which the base is inserted, the elastic pieces being adapted to resiliently abut against an outer peripheral surface of the base, the weld pieces being adapted to be welded to the outer peripheral surface of the base. The weld pieces are securely welded to the outer peripheral surface of the base after the elastic pieces are made to abut against the outer peripheral surface of the base.

Disclosed is a lamp having a lamp capsule consisting of a glass bulb containing filaments sealed therein with a substantially flat pinch-sealed portion being formed integrally at one end of the glass bulb, and being held at the pinch-sealed portion by a retaining plate; the lamp comprising a plurality of holding pieces for chucking the pinch-sealed portion, formed on the retaining plate; and thick-wall portions formed at that end of the pinch-sealed portion which constitutes the boundary with the glass bulb, except for the crosswise middle part of the pinch-sealed portion, so that the thick-wall portions may be brought into contact with the holding pieces.
