An image forming apparatus includes a microcomputer which increments a mode counter each time a copying operation is completed in a selected one of a non-inverted or inverted image forming mode. After the completion of the copying operation in the selected mode, when the image forming mode is changed to the other image forming mode, a time is set in a timer according to the count value of the previously used selected image forming mode counter and a photosensitive drum is pre-charged to a predetermined voltage corresponding to the image forming mode to be utilized next. Therefore, a pre-charge time can be set for one of the inverted and non-inverted image forming modes in accordance with the number of image forming operations carried out in the preceding selected image forming mode. The transfer corona producing source of the apparatus can be used as the pre-charging voltage source when the inverted image forming mode is selected and the main corona producing source can be used when the non-inverted image mode is selected.

Image forming apparatus capable of forming inverted and non-inverted

An image forming apparatus is loaded with a developing device capable of being easily exchanged, and a toner sensor for detecting a toner density is provided in association with the developing device. An output signal of the toner sensor approaches 0 V as a weight of a developer becomes small. Therefore, when the output signal from the toner sensor is detected prior to an agitating screw is operated when a power source is turned-on, it is possible to determine whether a developing device attached at that time is an unused or used one in accordance with the output signal. In addition, the output of the toner sensor when the developing device is an unused one is stored in a backed-up memory as a reference value for controlling a toner density during an actual operation.

Image forming apparatus

A force transmission belt having a plurality of block bodies each with laterally spaced pulley-engaging surfaces, an endless band to be trained about a pair of pulleys, cooperating structure on the endless band and the block bodies for maintaining the block bodies in an operative position on the endless band with the block bodies slidable lengthwise of the endless band and positioned so that the laterally spaced pulley-engaging surfaces frictionally engage a pulley about which the endless band is trained, and channel structure in at least one of the block bodies for guiding lubricant from a point between adjacent, engaged block bodies and the endless band to a location outside of the one block body to minimize wear between the adjacent block bodies during operation.

High load force transmission belt

A power transmission belt having longitudinally spaced pairs of blocks on the opposite surfaces of a neutral belt portion thereof. The blocks are formed of hard synthetic resin materials having fibers distributed therein. The fibers may be provided in the form of distributed short fibers, fabrics, and one or more different types of fibers may be utilized in the respective blocks. The fibers include carbon fibers, aramid fibers, and silicon carbide fibers. The neutral belt is provided with longitudinally spaced projections on the upper and lower surfaces thereof and the blocks are provided with complementary recesses receiving the projections. The recesses are preferably deeper than the height of the projections, whereby the distal surfaces of the blocks may be urged with high frictional engagement against the flat surfaces of the neutral belt. The blocks are resiliently clamped to the neutral belt and the clamping forces are urged through the neutral belt to the tensile cord carried therein for further improved stabilization of the blocks on the neutral belt.

Belt for high load transmission

A tire for a two-wheeled vehicle, particularly, a bicycle intended for a racing purposes having an improved running stability, superior durability and impact resistance, and reduced weight. The tire includes a carcass layer formed by arranging cord belts with a rubber paste coated thereon in such a manner that the cords of the cord belts cross each other. A tube is fitted to the inside of the carcass layer, and a rubber tread portion is bonded to the outer periphery of the carcass layer. The cord belt is produced in bias form with alternately arranged cords superior in durability and impact resistance and cords superior in adhesion with rubber. The two types of cords may be equal in number, or a majority of one of the two types of cords employed, depending upon the precise application of the tire and the conditions under which it is intended for use.

A platen for use in thermal printer of a type designed to effect a printing with the use of at least one thermal print head for printing on a recording medium positioned between the platen and the thermal print head, which platen comprises a generally elongated elastic body having an exterior surface adapted to be brought into contact with the heating elements of the thermal print head assembly with at least the recording medium intervening therebetween, and a layer of porous material lined on the exterior surface of the elastic body and having a hardness greater than that of the elastic body and also having a thermal conductivity lower than that of the elastic body. The thermal conductivity and the porosity of the layer of porous material may be within the range of 0.05 to 0.10 Kcal/m.sup.2 .multidot.hr.multidot..degree.C. and within the range of 50 to 95%, respectively.

Platen for use in thermal printer

An electrophotographic copying machine comprises a mouse which is connected to a main unit by a connecting cord and is for inputting positional information for editing. The mouse has a roller whose peripheral side surface is exposed from a case. When the mouse is moved while the peripheral side surface of the roller is brought in contact with a surface of an original, pulses are generated from the mouse attending on rotation of the roller, and these pulses are counted by a counter of a microcomputer. The counted value of the counter is utilized as positional data for editing by the microcomputer. Based on that positional data, the microcomputer partially and selectively lightens of a plurality of LED elements constituting a LED array. Therefore, an electrostatic latent image on a photoreceptor-drum is partially erased so that 'masking or 'trimming' of an image in an area defined by the positional data is executed. When the timing of transfer of a toner image is controlled by the microcomputer based on the positional data, 'moving' of the image is performed.

Electrophotographic copying machine having an editorial function

A platen for use in a thermal printer of a type designed to effect printing with the use of at least one thermal print head for printing a recording medium positioned between the platen and the thermal print head, which platen comprises a generally elongated elastic body having an exterior surface adapted to be brought into contact with the heating elements of the thermal print head assembly with at least the recording medium intervening therebetween. At least the exterior surface of the elastic body is mixed with a mass of porous fine particles having a hardness greater than that of the elastic body and also having a thermal conductivity lower than that of the elastic body. The thermal conductivity and the porosity of the porous fine particles may be within the range of 0.04 to 0.09 Kcal/m.sup.2.hr..degree.C. and within the range of 60 to 95%, respectively.

A drinking water purifying apparatus for purifying water from a water service comprises an ozone generating means for producing ozonized gas, an ozone reaction means for reacting the ozonized gas from the ozone generating means with the water from a water service, and a treating means for treating the water obtained by reaction to the ozonized gas in the ozone reaction means, whereby drinking water being free from organic compounds and smelling substances and having good taste can be obtained.

Drinking water purifying apparatus

A method of bonding fabric to rubber in forming a composite having adhesive strength therebetween. The method includes pretreating the fabric by subjecting it to a solvent selected from the group consisting of isocyanate solvent, epoxy solvent, and liquid mixtures thereof, subjecting the pretreated fabric to a liquid containing acrylonitrile-butadiene-latex and a resorcinol-formalin mixture wherein the solid weight ratio of the acrylonitrile-butadiene-latex to the resorcinol-formalin is in the range of from approximately 10 to 1 to approximately 2 to 1, the mol ratio of resorcinol to formalin is in the range of from approximately 1 to 3 to approximately 3 to 1, and the acrylonitrile-butadiene-latex contains at least approximately 3% carboxyl groups, heat treating the fabric, and vulcanizing unvulcanized high temperature resistant hydronitrile rubber in association with said fabric. A rubber/fabric composite manufacture embodying the invention utilizing a rubber composite having an isocyanurate organic peroxide vulcanizing agent is disclosed.

A thermal transfer printing method which is performed by the use of a thermal printer including a platen, a thermal print head having at least one heating element and a length of ink carrier ribbon with the recording medium positioned between the thermal print head and the length of ink carrier ribbon, which ink carrier ribbon having a base film and an ink layer, which method includes the steps of pressing the ink carrier ribbon against the platen by the thermal print head with the ink layer brought in contact with the recording medium, heating the heating element to cause that portion of the ink layer, which is aligned with the heating element, to fuse, and causing that portion of the ink layer so fused to partially transfer onto the recording medium when a cohesive force acting internally of the ink layer becomes smaller than an adhesive force acting between the ink layer and the recording medium and, at the same time, smaller than a adhesive force acting between the ink layer and the base film, whereby the cohesive force is substantially destroyed so as to permit the thickness of the ink layer to be substantially split into halves such that one of the halves is transferred onto the recording medium and the other of the halves remains adhering to the base film.

Thermal transfer printing

A manufacture of an impact-resistant power transmission belt tensile cord and belt using the same. The tensile cords of the invention are caused to have coordinated characteristics of toughness, elongation under load, shrinkage, and shrinkage stress so as to provide absorption of longitudinal and transverse impact shock forces to the belt during high power transmission therethrough, with minimized dimensional changes of the belt over the useful life thereof, permitting the belt to be utilized in multiple parallel drive applications in extremely rigorous environments with minimized maintenance. The tensile cords are adhesively coated, thermally drawn and set multifilament polyester cords.

Power transmission tensile cord and belt manufacture

An electrophotographic photosensitive member comprising a photoconductive layer formed over a substrate and a surface layer formed over the photoconductive layer and having a high photoconductivity and charge retaining ability at the surface layer, in which the photoconductive layer and the surface layer being composed chiefly of amorphous silicon, the surface layer being a layer containing a substance forming an insulating material as combined with the amorphous silicon, and the content of the substance based on the silicon atoms being low toward the substrate and high toward the surface of the surface layer; which is usable for copying machines and intelligent copying machines.

Electrophotographic photosensitive member

A toothed belt having a fabric adhered to the toothed portion of the belt formed of synthetic resin yarns having an ultimate viscosity of greater than approximately 1.30. In the illustrated embodiment, the yarns extending in the longitudinal direction of the belt are fully processed yarns. The cloth is preferably a woven cloth wherein one or the other of the weft and warp are wooly processed. The use of the disclosed cloth provides a substantial improvement in resistance of the belt to cracking and shearing of the teeth in use.
