Disclosed herein is a clear paint composition, comprising (A) an acrylic copolymer comprising from 35 to 50 wt % &#x3b5;-caprolactone structural units, based on the resin solid fraction, and wherein the hydroxyl number is from 200 to 340 mgKOH/g and the weight average molecular weight is from 5,000 to 15,000 and (B) a non-yellowing type polyisocyanate compound, wherein the isocyanate group of the (B) component is included in a proportion of from 0.5 to 2 equivalents per 1 equivalent of hydroxyl group of the (A) component, wherein the Young's modulus of the hardened paint film obtained from said paint composition is not more than 1.5 Pa, wherein the molecular weight of intercrosslinking of the cured coating film (Mc) is not more than 350 g/mol, and wherein the glass transition temperature (Tg) of the hardened paint film is at least 65&#xb0; C.

Paint composition and painted objects

Disclosed herein is a heat-hardenable paint composition comprising a base resin, wherein the base resin comprises (A) a lactone modified resin comprising hydroxyl groups, wherein 20 to 70 weight percent of the structural units are based on the lactone compound, and the hydroxyl group value is from 50 to 400 mgKOH/g, and (B) an acrylic resin comprising hydroxyl groups and cyclic structures, wherein 10 to 80 weight percent of structural units are based on a radically polymerizable monomer comprising a cyclic structure, the hydroxyl group value is from 50 to 150 mgKOH/g, and the crosslinking resin is an isocyanate compound, wherein the weight ratio of the solid fractions of (A):(B) in the base resin is from 95:5 to 20:80.

Thermosetting paint compositions

Disclosed herein is a paint composition, comprising a hydroxyl group containing resin (A), having a hydroxyl group value of from 200 to 400 mgKOH/g, and comprising in a resin solid fraction less than 25 weight % of structural units based on a lactone compound, a hydroxyl group containing resin (B), having a hydroxyl group value of from 50 to 200 mgKOH/g, and comprising in the resin solid fraction from 25 to 75 weight % of structural units based on a lactone compound, and a crosslinking agent (C) comprising at least one functional group which reacts with hydroxyl groups, wherein the proportions by weight (A)/(B) of the hydroxyl group containing resin (A) and the hydroxyl group containing resin (B), based on the resin solid fraction, are from 90/10 to 10/90.

Thermosetting composition containing polyhemiacetal ester resin and powdery thermosetting composition

A composite paint film coating formed on a steel sheet of an automotive vehicle body. The composite paint film coating is comprised of an electrodeposition paint film (I) coated on the steel sheet, and an intermediate paint film (II) coated on the first paint film. The electrodeposition paint film has a minimum melt viscosity not less than 0.2 during hardening. The electrodepositon paint film is formed of cathodic electrodeposition paint composition which includes a cationic thermosetting resin (1), and an already cross-linked particulate resin (2). The particlate resin is an addition-polymer formed between a fist compound (A) having at least two primary amino groups in a molecule, and a second compound (B) having at least two .alpha.,.beta.-ethylenic unsaturated groups. The particulate resin has an average particle size ranging from 0.01 to 1 .mu.m. The weight ratio ((2)/(1)) in solid content between the particulate resin (2) cationic thermosetting resin (1) is within a range from 0.03 to 0.15. The intermediate paint film (II) has hardening starting time ranging from 5 to 20 minutes.

Composite paint film coating

A premix, an origomeric prepolymer obtainable from a limited addition polymerization effected with the premix and a thermosetting resin obtainable from such premix or prepolymer as well as fiber reinforced plastics made of such thermosetting resin which are excellent in the heat resistance, impact resistance and flexibility and exhibit a high toughness, wherein said premix comprises, as a first essential component, an amine-terminated amic acid expressed by the formula, ##STR1## in which R.sup.1 stands for a tetravalent aromatic residue having 6 to 20 carbon atoms and R.sup.2 denotes a divalent organic residue having 2 to 20 carbon atoms, said amic acid being produced by reacting a tetracarboxylic dianhydride with a diamine compound, and, as a second essential component, an N,N'-bis maleimide of the formula, ##STR2## wherein R.sup.3 denotes a divalent organic residue having 2 to 20 carbon atoms, the mole ratio of [N,N'-bismaleimide]/[amine-terminated amic acid] being in the range from 1 to 3.
