An object of the present invention is to provide a cell culture chamber with which the survival rate of cells to be cultured can be increased, and a method of producing the same. A cell culture chamber according to the present invention includes a mass of projections formed of a plurality of microprojections 1 formed on a surface on which cells are cultured. The width or diameter of each of the microprojections 1 is in a range of 20 nm to 3 &#x3bc;m, and the aspect ratio of each of the microprojections is in a range of 0.2 to 3.0. Thus, there can be provided a cell culture chamber most suitable for the adhesion and differentiation/proliferation of cells to be cultured.

The present invention includes three or more lens groups. The present invention provides a projection lens for projecting light from a light source onto a screen to form a magnified image, including two joined lenses, each of which includes a negative lens and a positive lens. The difference in the refractive index and the Abbe number between the negative lens and the positive lens in each of the joined lenses and the partial dispersion ratio of the negative lens and the positive lens of the second joined lens are specified. Thus, a large angle of view and a long back focal length can be achieved while satisfying distortion aberrations, telecentric properties and magnification chromatic aberrations.

A projection lens comprises 5 lenses in 5 groups including: a first-group lens that is a positive lens; a second-group lens that is a positive lens having the largest positive power (the inverse number of focal length) in the whole lens system; a third-group lens that is a positive lens; a fourth-group lens that is a positive lens; and a fifth-group lens that is a negative lens with its concave surface facing a screen side, in order from the screen side, wherein each lens of the first, third, fourth and fifth groups has at least one aspheric surface. The distance between the first-group lens and the second-group lens is relatively short, and the positive power in the fourth-group lens is relatively high. In the projection lens, an optical focal shift due to the temperature change in the fifth-group lens is hardly caused, and therefore a projection lens with minimal distortion aberration can be provided at a low cost.

A first lens group U1 having a positive optical power, a second lens group U2 having a negative optical power and a third lens group U3 having a negative optical power are disposed in the order from a screen end. For focusing action, the first lens group U1 and the second lens group U2 respectively move in a same direction for different quantities, while the third lens group U3 remains fixed. The aperture ratio of projection lens as a whole is 1:1.1, the magnification of projection is in a range of -0.025 to 0.100.

Provided is a method for making a thin film on a lens holder to reduce a reflection of light caused by an index difference between a refractive index of air and a refractive index of a lens-barrel of the lens holder. The thin film is formed by dipping the lens holder into a solution of a solvent and a fluororesin compound or by dripping the solution onto the lens holder. The lens holder is removed from the solution. Then, the solvent is removed to thereby form a thin film of the fluororesin compound on the lens holder.

A spindle arrangement is provided for either holding a workpiece or mounting a working tool onto a rotary shaft in a cutting/grinding process. The spindle arrangement includes radial magnetic bearings for rotatably supporting the rotary shaft in a radial direction thereof by using suction forces of electromagnets, displacement sensors provided in the radial direction of the rotary shaft for measuring an amount of positional displacement of the rotary shaft, and a controlling device for comparing the measured amount of the positional displacement and a displacement command and then changing the suction forces of the radial electromagnets based on the compared result so as to cause agreement between the measured amount and the command. Instead of or in addition to those elements, the spindle can include a thrust magnetic bearing for rotatably supporting the rotary shaft in a thrust direction thereof by using suction forces of electromagnets, a displacement sensor provided in the thrust direction of the rotary shaft for measuring an amount of displacement of the rotary shaft, and a controlling device for comparing the measured amount of the displacement and a displacement command and then changing the suction forces of the thrust electromagnets based on the compared result so as to cause agreement between the measured amount and the command. A method for operating the spindle is also provided.

A flat tube display apparatus wherein a row of many electron beam generators is arranged transversely in a thin flat vacuum tube body to generate a number of beams in parallel with each other which travel in parallel with an image screen and to deflect the beams toward the image screen at a predetermined position. The beams are guided without being widely diverged due to the provision of a number of side walls arranged in parallel with each other to confine beams and due to the provision of alternately strong and weak magnetic fields along the side walls. Image brightness can be further increased by a frit-glass-laminated structure of a multiplier or microchannel.
