A numeric controller is provided with a three-dimensional model storage which stores a three-dimensional model of at least one of a workpiece and a jig; a three-dimensional measuring unit which integrally measures shapes of the workpiece and the jig fixed to the machine tool; and a shape processor generating an integrally measured model based on the measured data, in which the workpiece and the jig being integrally recognized, measured by the three-dimensional measuring unit, and further generating, regarding at least one of the workpiece and the jig, an individually measured model in which the workpiece or the jig is individually measured based on the generated integrally measured model and the three-dimensional model of the workpiece or the jig.

A method includes: (a) transferring a tool to where thread cutting is to start; (b) cutting threads in work with the tool; (c) performing tool deceleration along the Z-axis and acceleration along the X-axis during a predetermined acceleration/deceleration time Ta to retract the tool along the X-axis; and (d) returning the tool to a reference point. In Step (c), to shorten the incomplete thread portion, a command is issued concurrently with the start of the acceleration/deceleration time Ta to realize a pullout speed Ve along the X-axis that exceeds an allowable maximum speed Vmax to increase the acceleration along the X-axis. The speed command for moving the tool along the X-axis is maintained at the value of zero from the elapse of command time Te until the acceleration/deceleration time Ta expires to maintain the actual speed of the tool along the X-axis at or below the allowable maximum speed Vmax.

Method of controlling thread cutting

A cutting tool having a blade section on one end is mounted on a spindle of a cutting machine, and the blade section is contacted with a workpiece to perform planing of the workpiece into a desired shape. Because the tip of the blade section is disposed on the spindle axis, the position of the cutting edge is controlled by performing drive control of the X-axis and Y-axis of the spindle. Thus, the control of the cutting machine is simplified, and path errors resulting from synchronous control can be eliminated.

It is strongly demanded that a stable thread machining process be attained by carrying out a thread machining operation while varying the rotational frequency of a spindle, and thereby restraining the occurrence of cutting chatter. According to the present invention, in which a thread machining process is carried out on the basis of a rotation of the spindle and a movement of a feed axis, the above-mentioned demand is met by executing the steps of determining a relative phase error of the spindle positions and feed axis during a thread machining operation, and determining a movement quantity of the feed axis on the basis of a pseudo spindle position set by error-compensating the quantity of the relative phase error with respect to the spindle position.
