A device for performing identification by sensing the fingerprint of a finger includes an input unit. The input unit is constituted by a plurality of linear contact electrodes formed on a substrate, and a pressure-sensitive sheet formed on the linear contact electrodes and a resistance thereof changes in accordance with a pressure applied thereto. When the finger touches the surface of the pressure-sensitive sheet, a change in resistance is caused between the electrodes, and this change is converted to data of a one-dimensional electrical signal distribution. The obtained data is compared with registered data, thereby performing identification. The time required for signal processing necessary in the identification device can be decreased.

Disclosed is a CO gas detecting device which comprises a CO gas sensor provided with a gas sensitive member made of SnO.sub.2, ZnO, Fe.sub.2 O.sub.3 or the like, a pair of electrodes provided on said gas sensitive member, and a catalyst layer comprising at least one kind of catalyst metals of Pt, Pd and Rh and at least one kind of carriers of Al.sub.2 O.sub.3, ZrO.sub.2 and SiO.sub.2, provided on said gas sensitive member; and a reference sensor substantially without sensitivity to CO gas provided with a gas sensitive member similar to the above gas sensitive member, a pair of electrodes provided on said gas sensitive member and a catalyst layer comprising Ag and at least one kind of carriers of Al.sub.2 O.sub.3, ZrO.sub.2 and SiO.sub.2, provided on said gas sensitive member. CO gas detecting device and circuit for driving the same

A gas detecting element comprises a substrate, a gas sensitive body provided on the substrate, a pair of electrodes connected to the gas sensitive body and a catalyst layer provided on the surface of the gas sensitive body. The catalyst layer including a carrier material and a catalyst material of copper and tungsten. The gas detecting element in accordance with the present invention has equal sensitivity to a number of different gases.

A cation emission type halogenated hydrocarbon gas detecting element comprising a cation source, a heating means and an ion collector electrode, which is characterized in that said cation source consist essentially of .beta.-Al.sub.2 O.sub.3, wherein substantially all cation species occupy a position in the crystal lattice structure of the source. By employing .beta.-Al.sub.2 O.sub.3, the detecting element can be more miniaturized and can work at lower temperature than a conventional cation emission type electrode comprising the cation source made of steatite.

Disclosed is a gas leak detector comprising; a tubular gas-sensitive element defining openings at both ends thereof, one end being a gas inlet and the other end a gas outlet, and made of an oxygen-ion conductive solid electrolyte; a set of electrodes provided respectively on the inner and outer walls of the gas-sensitive element, the electrode on the outer wall being kept in contact with a reference gas; a heater adapted to heat the gas-sensitive element to a predetermined temperature at a location corresponding to the set of electrodes; and a catalytic layer provided on the surface of the electrode on the inner wall being kept in contact with a target gas.

A gas detecting element having a high gas selectivity which comprises an N-type metal oxide semiconductor, 0.005 to 8% by weight, based on the metal oxide, of at least one noble metal catalyst selected from the group consisting of platinum (Pt), palladium (Pd) and rhodium (Rh) and phosphorus 1.5 to 30 times as much as that of the noble metal or 0.05 to 30 times as much as that of palladium where palladium alone is used as the noble metal catalyst.
