Provided are an electrode manufacturing apparatus and a method of manufacturing an electrode in which an electrode capable of preventing the occurrence of an internal short circuit is manufactured. A current collector is passed through a coating position in a downward direction by a reference roll. Thereby, just after coating of a mixture is interrupted, a built-up mixture between the current collector and a coating outlet is pulled in a downward direction by the current collector, so the position of the built-up mixture is lower than the position of the coating outlet. Therefore, the adhesion of the mixture to the coating outlet can be prevented, and as a result, a non-forming region where no mixture is formed can be prevented from being coated with the mixture.

Electrode manufacturing apparatus and method of manufacturing electrode

To provide a method of manufacturing a battery capable of providing an equal amount of electrolyte in each battery and of enhancing productivity and coating machines employed thereof. The sensor detects a boundary from the collector exposed region C of the belt-shaped positive electrode to the positive electrode mixture layer exposed region B, on the basis of the detection timing, the shutter is withdrawn to open the flowing path and the proportioning pomp is driven. Following this, when the sensor detected a boundary from the positive electrode mixture layer exposed region B to a collector exposed region C, and on the basis of the detection timing, the shutter is protruded inside the flowing path to close the flowing path and the proportioning pump stops. As a result of this, the electrolyte stops to be delivered from the nozzle. The electrolyte layers are intermittently formed by repeating the same procedures. With the proportioning pump, the electrolyte is evenly applied to pressure in order to push the electrolyte from the nozzle, so that a given amount of the electrolyte can be delivered. Thereby, the electrolyte layers, which are thin and even in thickness in width and longitudinal directions can be formed and an amount of the electrolyte included in each of the batteries can be uniform.

Method of manufacturing a battery

A gel electrolyte battery in which adhesion between a layer of an active material of an electrode and a gel electrolyte is raised to provide for sufficient mobility of lithium ions, and a method for the preparation of the gel electrolyte battery. The gel electrolyte battery is comprised of a battery device accommodated in an exterior material of a laminated film and sealed in it on heat fusion. The method for the preparation of the gel electrolyte battery includes a battery device preparation step of layering a positive electrode and a negative electrode via a gel electrolyte to form the battery device, an accommodating step of accommodating the battery device from the battery device preparation step in the laminated film, and a heating step of heating the battery device, accommodated in the laminated film in the accommodating step, under a pressured state.

Gel electrolyte battery

The surface of a positive-electrode active material layer or a negative-electrode an active material layer is coated with a gel electrolyte composition to form a gel electrolyte layer. The positive and negative electrodes are laminated such that the gel electrolyte layer is sandwiched. At this time, the gel electrolyte composition is formed into a sol form so as to be applied to the surface of the positive-electrode active material layer or the negative-electrode active material layer. The viscosity of the gel electrolyte composition formed into the sol form is 1 cp to 50 cp. The gel electrolyte composition is formed into the sol form by heating the gel electrolyte composition or diluting the gel electrolyte composition with nonaqueous solvent. When dilution with the nonaqueous solvent is performed, solvent having a high boiling point and solvent having a low boiling point are mixed with each other. After a coating operation has been completed, the solvent having the low boiling point is removed by vaporization. It is effective to heat the positive electrode or the negative electrode when the gel electrolyte composition formed into the sol is applied. Since the gel electrolyte composition formed into the sol form is applied, the electrolytic solution is able to quickly penetrate the active material layer.
