A developing roller and a developing device are provided to enable a satisfactory developing operation. In order to accomplish this object, a roller main body of the developing roller is made of a roller base material containing acrylonitrile-butadiene rubber as a main component, and an adherence preventing coating layer is formed on the outer circumferential surface of the roller main body, thereby preventing the adherence of developer to the roller main body. Particularly, by setting the friction coefficient of the coating layer within a range of 0.5 to 0.95 inclusive and/or the glossiness thereof within a range of 4.5 to 8 inclusive, an occurrence of any of negative ghost, positive ghost and background fogging is prevented or suppressed to a level where no problem is presented in practical use.

A sheet transporting device for use in an image forming apparatus includes a first and second sheet transporting members movable in widthwise directions of sheet to be transported, the first sheet transporting member for transporting the sheet in a lengthwise direction of the sheet in contact with one side end portion of the sheet, the second sheet transporting member for transporting the sheet in the lengthwise direction in contact with the other side end portion of the sheet; a moving mechanism for moving the first and second sheet transporting members in widthwise directions of the sheet: a sheet feeder provided at an upstream of the first and second sheet transporting members for holding the sheet temporarily and feeding the sheet to the first and second sheet transporting members; and a controller for controlling the moving mechanism and the sheet feeder to move the first and second sheet transporting members until they come into contact with the sheet while rendering the sheet feeder hold the sheet.

Sheet transporting device for use in an image forming apparatus

Ink comprising an aqueous medium, a water-insoluble colorant and a dispersant for dispersing the colorant in the aqueous medium, the dispersant being a water-soluble polymer obtained by polymerizing a monomer containing at least one monomer selected from acryloylmorpholine represented by the formula (1): ##STR1## and styrene sulfonate represented by the formula (2): ##STR2## [wherein M is an alkaline metal atom or an amino group] is provided. This ink is suitable for using for an ink-jet recording system because it provides a fast recorded image and is also superior in storage stability and jetting stability.
