An object detection device acquires a plurality of images captured by a camera mounted in a moving body and acquires movement information of the camera. The object detection device extracts an edge from a first image among the acquired images. The object detection device calculates a plurality of candidate points corresponding to the edge in a second image, based on the movement information and calculates candidate points corresponding to a plurality of heights as height candidates of the edge. A calibration method for calibrating an attitude of a camera mounted on a vehicle using markers each arranged vertically and each positioned at a pre-designated height from a road surface. The method includes: a first process including shooting an image of the markers with the camera, thereby generating a two-dimensional image; a second process including converting the two-dimensional image into a bird's eye view image on a specific plane so that the bird's eye view image reflects the height of each of the markers; and a third process including calculating a parameter of the camera based on a position difference between the markers in the specific plane obtained in the second process.

An image processing device includes an image input section inputting images taken by a vehicle camera, a calibration target specifying section specifying a calibration target included both in a first image and in a second image, a vehicle information input section inputting information indicating travel distance and orientation change of the vehicle, a calculation section, and a storing control section. A vehicle system for a vehicle can include sensors and a controller. The sensors can detect a position and speed of the vehicle and a position and speed of an object adjacent to the vehicle's lane. The controller can determine an operational state based on input from the sensors. The controller can operate the vehicle in an autonomous mode, wherein the controller controls the speed of the vehicle and a spacing between the vehicle and the object. The controller can switch from the autonomous mode to a learning mode in response to a driver taking control of the vehicle's speed or steering. In the learning mode, the controller can learn a preferred spacing between the vehicle and the object and a preferred speed relative to the object. The controller can control the vehicle in the autonomous mode based on the preferred spacing and speed during similar operational states.

A position detection device obtains image coordinate groups representing a coordinate of a target object in each acquired image having first and second acquired image groups. The first acquired image group has acquired images obtained at an image acquiring timing in a reference period. The second acquired image group has acquired images obtained at an image acquiring timing in the reference period, which is delayed from the image acquiring timing of the first acquired image group by an asynchronous time. The device performs a Fourier transformation of each of a first locus and a second locus, and calculates a first frequency waveform based on the first locus and a second frequency waveform based on the second locus. The device calculates a position of the target object based on a relationship in which the frequency waveforms are delayed relative to each other by a phase corresponding to the asynchronous time.

There is provided an apparatus for generating a disparity map. According to the apparatus, an image acquisition section acquires a right-camera image and a left-camera image which are picked up from mutually different viewpoints by cameras. A disparity map generation section generates a disparity map that includes disparity expressed in terms of a difference in pixel positions between each of pixels and a corresponding one of pixels in the right-camera image and the left-camera image, respectively, as acquired. A weight determination section determines a weight that serves as a degree of contribution to disparity correction, for each of weight-calculation-target pixels composed of surrounding pixels. The weight-calculation-target pixels include a correction-target pixel or surrounding pixels that are present around the correction-target pixel in the disparity map. A disparity map correction section corrects the disparity of the correction-target pixel, using weighted average based on the determined weight.

A cruising zone division line recognition apparatus has an image acquisition device that acquires an image including a road surface ahead of a vehicle, and an image recognition device. The image recognition device adds blurring to an area including the road surface in the acquired image and recognizes a cruising zone division line from the image to which blurring has been added. When blurring is added, a cruising zone division line that is an intermittent double line included in a captured image can be made unclear. Therefore, the recognized cruising zone division line can be prevented from becoming a discontinuous, disjointed line.

A graphic unit overlaps the vehicle image and an image produced according to the history data and converts the overlapped image to be viewed from a predetermined viewpoint. A peripheral image display region indicates a present periphery of the vehicle. A method for calibrating vehicle cameras is simplified by providing painted patterns on a road surface and by capturing those patterns by the cameras to be calibrated. According to a predefined positional relationship of the cameras with the painted patterns, captured images of the painted patterns are bird's-eye converted and matched with reference to calculate camera positions in a vehicle, thereby enabling an automatic calibration of camera directions and the like.

The apparatus includes: an imaging device for capturing a periphery image; a storage medium for storing history data comprising one of the periphery image and information on an object-in-periphery, the storage medium pre-storing a vehicle image; a display screen having a real-time displaying part for displaying thereon the periphery image with distortion of the periphery image being uncorrected, and a history displaying part for displaying thereon the vehicle image and a history image being produced based on the history data; and a drawing section configured to superimposingly draw the vehicle image and the history image provided with the distortion that the periphery image has, such that the object-in-periphery shown in the history image is continuously connected to that shown in the periphery image.
