Provided are: a multiplexing apparatus for comparing priorities, selecting multiplexed data in an arbitrary output rate, and outputting the multiplexed data; and a receiving apparatus for combining data outputted from the multiplexing apparatus in a time sequential order, and thereafter outputting the data. A multiplexing apparatus () includes: a multiplexing buffer () that receives and temporarily stores encoded units to which respective priorities have been added; a multiplexing control unit () for sequentially selecting, based on the priorities and data amounts of the encoded units, encoded units each having respective data amounts which can be transmitted in a unit time and also having a higher priority than any other one; and a multiplexing unit () for sequentially selecting and multiplexing, under control of the multiplexing control part, encoded units, from among the encoded units stored in the multiplexing buffer, each of which has a respective data amount which can be transmitted in the unit time and also has a higher priority than any other one, and outputting the encoded units.

Multiplexing apparatus and receiving apparatus

A control unit () is provided for storing time information of data which are received for the first time by a receiving unit () in a memory (), and for, every time when the receiving unit () detects time information, acquiring the time information from the receiving unit (), calculating the difference between the acquired time information and the time information of the first received data stored in the memory (), and, when the difference reaches a predetermined amount, outputting a command for starting a playback of data to a playback unit (). The playback unit () starts a playback of the data stored in the storage unit () when the command for starting a playback of data is outputted from the control unit ().

Data playback apparatus and data playback method

First and second input data sequences are packetized to produce packets having fixed first and second lengths, respectively. A flag and headers are attached to the packets for transmission. In a demultiplexing apparatus, when the header cannot be properly identified, subsequent demultiplexing steps are performed by estimating that the subsequent data is the first input data sequence, when the first length occurs before the next flag, and estimating that the subsequent data is the second input data sequence, when the second length occurs. When the flag cannot be properly identified, the flag is expected at the first length from the previous header when the previous header indicates the first input data sequence, and the flag is expected at the second length when the previous header indicates the second input data sequence.

Multiplexing apparatus and demultiplexing apparatus

A data switching apparatus selects and transmits one of a plurality of received data and switches coded data while holding a coding unit of the coded data. A data switching apparatus includes plural data unit detectors each for detecting a coding unit of a data from a received data; plural data storages each for storing a received data in a buffer and transmitting the received data at a given time from a point specified by the data unit detector; and a data selecting unit for selecting and transmitting only one data stream from a plurality of data streams which are transmitted respectively from the plural data storages.
