An interposer includes a housing having a plurality of through-holes penetrating a first surface and a second surface and a signal contact pair composed of a pair of signal contacts. Each of the signal contacts includes a base portion press-fitted in one of the through-holes, a first contact beam extending from the base portion beyond the first surface, and a second contact beam extending from the base portion beyond the second surface. The pair of signal contacts are positioned adjacently to each other widthwise and are each asymmetrical with respect to a width direction. The signal contact pair has a plane-symmetrical shape with respect to the width direction.

Interposer

An interposer includes a housing and a contact disposed in the housing. The housing has a first face, a second face opposite the first face, and a passageway penetrating the first face and the second face. The contact has a base portion press-fitted in the passageway, a first contact beam extending obliquely with respect to the first face from the base portion, and a second contact beam extending obliquely with respect to the second face from the base portion. The first contact beam extends outward beyond the first face and has a first contact point portion. The second contact beam extends outward beyond the second face and has a second contact point portion. The first contact point portion and the second contact point portion both extend beyond a penetrated region of the passageway in a direction perpendicular to an insertion direction in which the contact is inserted into the passageway.

Interposer and method for manufacturing interposer

An interposer includes a housing having a plurality of through-holes penetrating a first surface and a second surface and a signal contact pair composed of a pair of signal contacts. Each of the signal contacts includes a base portion press-fitted in one of the through-holes, a first contact beam extending from the base portion beyond the first surface, and a second contact beam extending from the base portion beyond the second surface. The pair of signal contacts are positioned adjacently to each other widthwise and are each asymmetrical with respect to a width direction. A first minimum spacing between the first contact beams of the pair of signal contacts is narrower than a second minimum spacing between the base portions of the pair of signal contacts. The signal contact pair has a plane-symmetrical shape with respect to the width direction.

A contact module includes a leadframe having signal contacts arranged in pairs. Each signal contact includes a lead having sides extending between inner and outer edges. The contact module includes a dielectric frame supporting the leadframe having a first side and a second side with windows extending through the dielectric frame between the first side and the second side. The windows exposing to air the sides, the inner edges and the outer edges of the corresponding leads along a majority of lengths of the leads. The contact module includes a shield structure having a first ground shield at the first side and a second ground shield at the second side to provide electrical shielding for the signal contacts.

Contact module for a connector assembly

An integrated circuit socket includes a housing having a flat plate portion and a plurality of contacts disposed in the housing. The contacts each have a contact beam projecting outwardly from a first surface of the housing and a retained portion disposed in a passageway in the flat plate portion. The contact beam extends from the retained portion. The retained portion has a base portion with a flat-plate shape and a pair of side portions extending at an angle with respect to the base portion on a pair of opposite sides of the base portion. A cross-section of the retained portion parallel to the first surface has a U-shape.

An electrical connector assembly includes a housing having a cavity receiving a stack of contact modules each having a dielectric holder having first and second sides extending between a front and a rear and extending between a top and a bottom. Each contact module includes signal contacts having mating portions and mounting portions extending from the bottom for termination to a circuit board. The dielectric holder includes a press tab extending from the first side proximate to the bottom having press surface pressed downward by a seating tool to press the electrical connector assembly on the circuit board proximate to the bottom of the dielectric holder to seat the mounting portions in vias in the circuit board.

A contact module includes a dielectric holder having first and second sides extending between a mating end and a mounting end. The contact module includes signal contacts held by the dielectric holder along a contact plane. The contact module includes a first ground shield coupled to the first side of the dielectric holder and providing electrical shielding for the signal contacts and a second ground shield coupled to the second side of the dielectric holder and providing electrical shielding for the signal contacts, the ground shield having skewer openings. The contact module includes ground skewers having posts extending from the first ground shield through the dielectric holder. The posts are electrically connected to the first ground shield and extend into corresponding skewer openings of the second ground shield to electrically connect the first ground shield to the second ground shield.

A contact module includes a dielectric holder having right and left sides holding signal contacts. A shield structure is coupled to the dielectric holder providing electrical shielding for the signal contacts. The shield structure has a first ground shield provided at the right side of the dielectric holder and a second ground shield provided at the left side of the dielectric holder. The first and second ground shields are electrically connected together between corresponding pairs of the signal contacts and providing electrical shielding between corresponding signal contacts along a majority of a length of the transition portions.

Shielding structure for a contact module

A contact module includes a dielectric holder holding signal contacts and guard traces. The guard traces are electrically commoned and provide electrical shielding between the corresponding signal contacts. A ground shield is coupled to a first side of the dielectric holder and provides electrical shielding for the signal contacts. The ground shield is electrically connected to each guard trace and has a plurality of rails. Each rail has side strips aligned with the signal contacts and connecting strips extending inward from a first edge of the side strip into the dielectric holder to directly engage the corresponding guard traces. The rails are generally L-shaped defined by the side strips and corresponding connecting strips.

Printed circuit includes a planar substrate having opposite sides and a thickness extending therebetween. The sides extend parallel to a lateral plane. The printed circuit also includes a plurality of conductive vias extending through the planar substrate in a direction that is perpendicular to the lateral plane. The conductive vias include ground vias and signal vias. The signal vias form a plurality of quad groups in which each quad group includes a two-by-two array of the signal vias. Optionally, the printed circuit also includes signal traces that electrically couple to the signal vias. The signal traces may form a plurality of quad lines in which each quad line includes four of the signal traces. The four signal traces of each quad line may extend parallel to one another and be in a two-by-two formation.

A PCB includes a substrate having a connector surface with a PCB connector footprint defined along a longitudinal axis and a lateral axis and subdivided into PCB column grouping footprints extending generally parallel to the longitudinal axis. The PCB includes signal vias arranged in pairs along a signal pair axis with a plurality of pairs of signal vias in each PCB column grouping footprint. The signal pair axis is non-parallel to the longitudinal axis, non-parallel to the lateral axis and intersects the longitudinal axis at a lesser angle than the signal pair axis intersects the lateral axis. The PCB includes ground vias at least partially through the substrate. The ground vias are arranged around each of the pairs of signal vias to provide electrical shielding around each of the pairs of signal vias.

A contact module includes a dielectric holder holding signal contacts with mating portions and a shield structure providing electrical shielding for the signal contacts. The shield structure has first and second ground shields. The ground shields have mating portions extending forward of a mating end of the dielectric holder. The shield structure has a ground clip at least partially covering the mating end of the dielectric holder and extending between sides thereof to electrically connect the mating portions of the first ground shield and the mating portions of the second ground shield immediately forward of the mating end of dielectric holder.

Electrical connector includes a connector body and a plurality of electrical contacts coupled to the connector body. Each of the electrical contacts has an elongated body that includes a base material and an impedance-control material plated over the base material. The impedance-control material extends along only a designated portion of the elongated body. The impedance-control material has a relative magnetic permeability that is greater than a relative magnetic permeability of the base material. The impedance-control material increasing an impedance of the electrical contact along the designated portion.

Pluggable connector includes a plug housing configured to couple to a communication cable. The plug housing has a plug cavity. The pluggable connector also includes a module board that is disposed within the plug cavity and configured to be communicatively coupled to the communication cable. The module board has a mating edge configured to interface with a mating connector. The module board includes a plurality of signal pathways and a plurality of ground pathways in which the signal pathways are interleaved between corresponding ground pathways. The signal and ground pathways include respective contact pads that are disposed proximate to the mating edge for engaging corresponding contacts of the mating connector. Each of the ground pathways has separate first and second trace segments and a damping component that electrically joins the first and second trace segments.

Pluggable connector and interconnection system configured for resonance control

A connector for surface mounting to a circuit substrate is disclosed having an insulator, a center conductor mounted to the insulator; and a shielding shell externally mounted on the insulator. The shielding shell has a connecting portion and a mounting portion. The mounting portion has a connector mounting body with a shielding portion, a fluid communication well, and at least one opening. A plurality of solder legs are formed on the connector mounting body.
