A radiation responsive composition containing a compound represented by the following formula (I) and a photoreducing agent capable of forming a redox couple together with said compound for many uses, e.g., image formation, etching, plating, etc.: ##STR1## wherein N represents a nitrogen atom; X represents an oxygen atom (--O--), a sulfur atom (--S--), or a nitrogen-containing group of formula, ##STR2## R.sup.1, R.sup.2, R.sup.3 and R.sup.4 each represents a mere bond, a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl, aryl, heterocyclic, acyl, aralkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl or carbamoyl group, or a sulfonyl group into which a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl or aryl group has been introduced, provided that at least one of the substituents R.sup.1 to R.sup.3 be a substituted or unsubstituted aryl or heterocyclic group and that two or more of R.sup.1, R.sup.2 and R.sup.3, or of R.sup.1, R.sup.2, R.sup.3 and R.sup.4 when X represents a nitrogen containing group of formula, ##STR3## may be taken together to form a ring; UG represents a group to be released from said compound of formula (I) taking advantage of the N--X bond cleavage as a trigger, which takes place when a redox couple is formed between said compound of formula (I) and the photoreducing agent irradiated with radiant rays; and the solid lines represent bonds, while broken lines indicate that a bond may or may not be present, but at least one of the broken lines forms a bond.

Metal-containing organic polymer and use thereof

An optical recording medium comprising a support carrying thereon a dye and at least one of the quenchers represented by the general formula (I) or (II) ##STR1## wherein (Cat.sub.1) and (Cat.sub.2) respectively represent a cation necessary for making the complex neutral, M.sub.1 and M.sub.2 respectively represent nickel, copper, cobalt, palladium or platinum, and n represents 1 or 2, is offered. The optical recording medium has a smaller deterioration during reproduction, in other words is superior in reading durability, and is at the same time superior in stability in preservation, as compared with the optical recording medium of the prior art.

An infrared absorbent comprising .alpha.-diimine metal complex is disclosed. With the use of the infrared absorbent, there is provided an infrared absorbing material capable of absorbing a near-infrared light having a wavelength of 700-1500 nm and a far-infrared light. The infrared absorbent has a good fastness to heat and light. The infrared absorbing material is suitable for an optical filter and optical information recording medium.

A process for forming color images which comprises providing a light absorbing dye layer or a dye containing layer on a base, at least the surface of which is composed of a transparent dye accepting polymer through which dyes are capable of thermally diffusing, imagewise exposing the dye layer or the dye containing layer to light having a high energy density such that a dye image is formed in the dye accepting polymer in the exposed area by thermal diffusion of the dye, and thereafter removing the dye or the dye containing layer in the unexposed areas.

A heat developable light-sensitive material comprising at least one layer containing a diazonium salt and a metal-.beta.-diketonate. If desired, these two essential components can be incorporated into different layers of the light-sensitive materials. The heat developable light-sensitive materials forms stable positive images upon exposure and heating.

A process for forming metal images of, e.g., copper at high sensitivity by imagewise depositing silver or silver ion on nuclei for physical development distributed on or in a support of an image forming photographic element or in a layer formed on the support of the photographic element to deactivate the physical developing activity of the active nuclei and then bringing the image forming element having the layer of the nuclei for physical developing which were not deactivated into contact with a physical developer containing a reducible heavy metal salt and a reducing agent to imagewise deposit the heavy metal, such as copper, on the remaining nuclei for physical development. A preferred embodiment comprises performing the above image forming process while depositing imagewise the silver or silver ion on the nuclei for physical development from the unexposed portions of an image-exposed silver halide photographic emulsion layer formed on the image forming photographic element by diffusion transfer.

A method for producing an image comprising image-wise exposing a light-sensitive layer containing a sensitizing agent and an image forming compound which can be transferred at non-exposed areas to an image receiving layer upon heating at about 80.degree. to about 200.degree. C, and which can be changed to a non-transferable compound at exposed areas, contacting the light-sensitive layer with the image receiving layer containing a compound which forms a colored image upon reaction with the image forming compound, and heating the light-sensitive layer to transfer the image forming compound to the image receiving layer at non-exposed areas, wherein the image receiving layer comprises an organic tellurium compound and a binder formed on a support.
