A tilt detecting device for use in various electronic apparatuses such as a watch, electronic notebook or the like. The tilt detecting device includes a projection in a part of a ball containing portion formed in an interior of an insulation case. In the insulation case, two conductive pins are disposed thereon in parallel with each other with a predetermined space, which have a large diameter portion, a small diameter portion and a step between them. In the ball containing portion, a conductive ball is contained therein, which is movable along in a longitudinal direction of the two conductive pins in the ball containing portion when the insulation case is inclined. Only when the insulation case is inclined, the conductive ball is at a position on the large diameter portions to be electrically in contact with the two conductive pins to output a corresponding detection signal.

A detecting device includes a device body having a containing chamber formed therein, a plurality of electrode members which are provided in the containing chamber in parallel to one another, a conductive movable body which is movably arranged in a space surrounded by the plurality of electrode members, and a magnet which generates a magnetic holding force for holding the conductive movable body. When an external force is applied to the device body, the conductive movable body is moved against the magnetic holding force of the magnet and is brought into electrical contact with at least two of the plurality of electrode members, thereby causing a detection signal corresponding to the electrical contact to be output.

When an inclination switch SW3 is turned on by inclining a wristwatch 12 up at 12 o'clock within a predetermined time after an acceleration switch SW2 is turned on in a state where an auto mode on/off subswitch SW1-1 is on, a lighting circuit lights up an electroluminescence panel EL and puts off same automatically after a predetermined time has passed. If the auto mode subswitch SW1-1 is off, there is no possibility that the panel EL will be lighted up even when the user makes a motion to look at the time displayed on the wristwatch. As a result, the panel EL is not recklessly lighted up excluding by the user's intended motion, useless power consumption is suppressed to prolong the life of a battery used.

Synthetic resin shaft and gear portions are molded to be capable of slipping each other. During a normal timepiece operation, the shaft and gear portions are integrally rotated. During a hand setting operation, the shaft portion is rotated with slip on the gear portion. In this slip structure of a timepiece, at least one of the shaft and gear portions is formed of an oil-containing resin material.
