An ink jet print head is disclosed which comprises: a head chip having a plurality of heating elements thereon, a flow passage forming member including a plurality of injection ports respectively corresponding to the heating elements for jetting out ink, a substrate for fixing the head chip, and a joint for supplying ink, wherein the substrate includes an opening so formed as to extend in the arrangement direction of the heating elements, the flow passage forming member is disposed so as to cover the opening from a position above the head chip, at least part of the joint is connected to the flow passage forming member, and ink supplied from the joint is supplied along the flow passage forming member to the heating elements disposed on the head chip.

Ink jet print head, method for manufacturing the same, and ink jet

A drop sensor for an ink jet printer for determining the two-dimensional position of an ink drop as it flies through the sensor. A plurality of light emitting elements emit light beams which cross in pairs in the space defined by the sensor. A plurality of light receiving elements are aligned to receive the light beams projected from specific light emitting elements and to generate signals having magnitudes proportional to the intensities of the light received by the light receiving elements. A plurality of differential amplifier circuits compare the outputs of adjacent light receiving elements to determine whether an ink drop is coincident with selected matrix points within the sensor.

Drop sensor for an ink jet printer

In an ink jet printer in which a nozzle generates ink drops from ink provided by an ink supply, the energizing signal to the nozzle is gradually decreased when the ink supply pressure is reduced, to avoid misting.

Ink jet printer shut-down control

A method for detecting a deflection amount of ink jets according to the present invention applied to an ink jet printer is effected by projecting light upon a flying ink drop, and detecting deflection amount of the ink drop on the basis of behavior of the light reflected by the ink drop. Further, a device for detecting a deflection amount of ink jets according to the invention utilizing the above method comprises a light emitting device for emitting the light, one or plural light receiving devices for receiving the light reflected by the ink drops a signal processing circuit for producing a detection signal indicative of the deflection amount of the above ink drop on the basis of the presence or absence and the level of the output of the light receiving device.

Method and device for detecting deflection amount of ink jet in ink jet

A deflecting electrode assembly for deflecting parallel trains of ink droplets in a multi-nozzle ink jet printer has upper and lower deflecting electrodes oriented parallel to the direction of travel of the trains of ink droplets. The electrodes are equal in width, and the distances between each side edge of the lower deflecting electrode and the outermost train of ink droplets closest thereto are equal. These distances are at least 41/2 times the distance between the adjacent trains of ink droplets. In addition, the upper and lower deflecting electrodes are separated by a distance between 1 and 2 mm. Such a deflecting electrode assembly creates an electrostatic shield effect which reduces the electrostatic mutual action of the ink droplets, thereby resulting in an improved print position on a recording sheet.

Deflecting electrode assembly for multi-nozzle ink jets

A method for the formation of a multi-nozzle ink jet is herein disclosed. In this method a single crystal silicon plate is masked and impurities are diffused upon its surface, creating regions of echant resistance. A second single crystal silicon plate is then grown onto the first, and is masked and etched. Due to the unisotropic etching properties of single crystal silicon plates, a groove is formed in the second plate, and a plurality of nozzles is formed in the first plate. This process yields a multi-nozzle ink jet of greater overall strength and utility, while eliminating the waste due to etching run common in the manufacture of conventional ink jets.

Formation of a multi-nozzle ink jet

An ink jet printer of the deflection type is provided in a multi-nozzle configuration to enable an increase in printing speed. A single character to be printed is proportionately divided into portions which are printed independently by the nozzles so that different portions of a character may be simultaneously formed.

Multi-nozzle ink jet printer

A confrontation type charging electrode member is disposed below or above flying paths of ink drops generated by a multi-nozzle jet in order to charge the ink drops in a binary type multi-nozzle ink jet printer. The electrodes apply a guard voltage to guard drops in front of and behind as well as on each side of printing drops so that the printing drops can move straight thereby reducing cross-talk between drops.

Method of charging jetted ink drops

An ink droplet charging device and method in which ink droplets are alternately charged positive, negative and with zero charges to prevent the accumulation of foreign particles upon charging electrodes. A nozzle jets an ink stream which is divided into ink droplets. A charging electrode disposed at the position where the ink stream divides into the droplets controls the charge condition of the ink droplets according to whether the ink droplets are utilized for printing or not. Positive, negative and ground level voltages are applied to the charging electrode in synchronization with the formation of the ink droplets.

Ink drop charging device

An ink particle jetting device for a multi-nozzle ink jet printer in which a plurality of silicon chips having nozzle arrays formed therein are mounted on a substrate having a plurality of holes therein with the nozzle arrays confronting the holes of the substrate. The substrate is preferably rectangularly shaped having rectangular holes parallel to one another and inclined with respect to the sides of the substrate. Two nozzles may confront each hole of the substrate. The two nozzles which confront a single hole in the substrate may fall along a line on the chip parallel to the sides of the chip or be inclined with respect to the sides. If desired, the sides of the adjacent chips may be cut to provide a high density arrangement.

Ink particle jetting device for multi-nozzle ink jet printer

An ink jet printer in which ink particles separated from an ink jet at positions shifted from the normal charging electrode position are maintained charged at all times thereby preventing the separated particles from reaching the recording medium and being displaced thereon as moise. Auxiliary charging electrodes are provided adjacent the charging electrodes which control the charging of the ink particles according to a printing signal. The auxiliary charging electrodes can be provided as first and second sets of electrodes disposed on either side of the charging electrodes or as a continuous set of plates running from a position near the nozzles past the charging electrodes.

Ink jet printer

A head for use in a pressure pulse drop-ejector system including a front plate formed with a nozzle, a resilient plate disposed in spaced relation by a thin partition wall to form an ink chamber between the front plate and the resilient plate, an electrostrictive element laminated on the surface of the resilient plate opposite the surface facing the front plate for deforming the resilient plate toward the front plate on application of electric field. This design allows for the use of a very thin gasket, which will form a very shallow ink chamber, which improves device operation and yet remains easy to assemble.

Ink jet head

A printing machine comprising a cylindrical applicator has a spiral groove formed on the peripheral surface and is rotatable. A doctor blade used to wipe away excess ink and to insure adequate ink in the grooves. Electrodes are provided opposite the groove and paper is fed at a speed slower than the rotating peripheral speed of the applicator. A voltage related to the character to be printed is sequentially fed to the opposite electrodes to attract ink in the groove with the paper and print the character. In another embodiment a plurality of applicators are used with each applicator having a counter electrode having a stylus electrode array. As voltages are applied to the array the ink in the adjacent groove swells and contacts the paper. The voltages are staggered between the two electrode arrays. In a third embodiment, using multineedle electrodes raises the ink electrostaticly to the top portion of the applicator. The ink is transferred from the top of the applicator on to an image transferring roll and thereafter on to the recording paper. A fourth embodiment uses spiral back electrodes disposed on the rear surface of a paper carrying drum. The drum and the applicator are rotated at the same peripheral speed so that the position of the drum relative to the grooves on the applicator will vary for each revolution.

Printing machine

A multi-nozzle ink jet printer adapted to eject ink droplets from arrays of nozzles and to charge the ejected ink droplets in a predetermined quantity. The charged ink droplets are deflected in the direction substantially parallel to the nozzle array so that the ink droplets can strike against a recording medium for printing. A deflection electrode assembly comprises a number of conductive wires stretched perpendicular to the nozzle array in a spaced relation, and the conductive wires are connected on alternate wires to form two groups between which a deflection voltage is applied.
