A rocker arm comprises an arm body, a shaft and a roller. The arm body formed substantially in a U-shape in section by effecting drawing on a metal plate, includes a connection wall connecting a pair of side walls, an aperture formed through the connection wall, and through-holes at positions where the pair of side walls are aligned with each other. A peripheral edge of the aperture is so formed as to be finished by inserting a first finishing die into the aperture from between the pair of side walls. The shaft is fitted in the pair of through-holes and extended between the pair of side walls. The roller is rotatably supported on the shaft.

Power roller bearing for toroidal-type continuously variable transmission

In a toroidal-type continuously variable transmission, there is provided a thrust rolling bearing interposed between a power roller and a trunnion for supporting a thrust-direction load applied to the power roller. The thrust rolling bearing includes a plurality of rolling elements and a retainer rollably holding the plurality of rolling elements. The retainer defines a circular-ring-shaped main body and a plurality of pockets respectively formed in the main body for rollably holding the plurality of rolling elements. A clearance between the pocket and the rolling element is set in the range of 0.6 to 6.0% of the ball diameter of the rolling element.

Toroidal-type continuously variable transmission

In the toroidal-type continuously variable transmission, the radial needle roller bearing includes a plurality of needle rollers, the two end portions of each of the needle rollers in the axial direction thereof are crowned, and the crowning amount is set such that, in the portion of the needle roller that is situated by 7-13% of the axial-direction length toward the axial-direction central portion of the needle roller from the axial-direction end face of the needle roller, the crowning amount is 0.1-0.4% of the outside diameter of the axial-direction central portion of the needle roller. Further, in the inner peripheral surface of the output-side disk, there are formed a fitting portion to be fitted outside with a member rotatable in conjunction with the output-side disk and an outer race raceway portion for the needle roller bearing, in the portion of the inner peripheral surface of the output-side disk that is situated near to the inside surface thereof, there is formed a residual compressive stress layer by shot peening, and the outer race raceway portion is ground so as to remove a portion of the residual compressive stress layer, to thereby form the outer race raceway portion as a smooth surface.
