A semiconductor optical integrated device in which a forward-bias optical device and a semiconductor laser are monolithically integrated on a semiconductor substrate, includes: a passive waveguide portion that is arranged between the forward-bias optical device and the semiconductor laser; and a ground electrode that is arrange on a lower surface of the semiconductor substrate. Further, the semiconductor laser includes a mirror having a length on a side closer to the forward-bias optical device, the forward-bias optical device includes a forward-bias optical-device electrode on a side opposite to a side in contact with the semiconductor substrate, the passive waveguide portion includes a passive waveguide electrode on a side opposite to a side in contact with the semiconductor substrate, and the passive waveguide electrode is electrically connected to the ground electrode.

A method for controlling a wavelength of an optical module, includes: a laser light source unit emitting a laser beam; a wavelength filter having a periodical transmission characteristic with respect to a wavelength of light; a temperature controller on which the wavelength filter is placed and that adjusting a temperature of the wavelength filter; a heat generating body placed on the temperature controller; and a control device controlling the wavelength of the laser beam emitted from the laser light source unit and control the transmission characteristic of the wavelength filter based on an intensity of the laser beam transmitted through the wavelength filter, the method including changing at least one of a target value of the wavelength control of the laser beam and a target value of the control of the wavelength filter based on a current value of the heat generating body.

Optical module, method for controlling wavelength thereof, and method for calibration thereof

An optical device includes: a base having first and second ends in first and second directions, respectively, and extends in the first direction; an optical module having a head adjacent to the base and is positioned close to the second end and a neck protruding from the head and is thinner than the head; a substrate attached on the base arranged with the head; and a pressing member having a first fixing portion fixed to the base, a second fixing portion fixed to the base, a first extension portion extending from the first fixing portion, a second extension portion extending from the second fixing portion, and a pressing portion provided in at least one of the first and the second extension portions and presses the head against the base.

A method of controlling a wavelength of a wavelength tunable laser module includes: referring to data of measured frequencies and wavelength filter control values at two or more points for each basic frequency channel, the data being stored in a memory of a controller; selecting the basic frequency channel closest to a frequency of laser light that a laser light source is instructed to emit; calculating a first wavelength filter control value for providing the instructed frequency of laser light from the data of the measured frequencies allocated to the basic frequency channel closest to the instructed frequency and the wavelength filter control values; and controlling the transmission characteristic of a wavelength filter using the first wavelength filter control value.

Wavelength tunable laser module and method of controlling wavelength thereof

An optical device includes: an optical module provided with an electrical pin; a printed wiring board that is connected to the electrical pin of the optical module, on which a control circuit for controlling the optical module is mounted, and on which an opening is formed; a first plate-shaped member to which the printed wiring board is fixed; a first fixing member that is inserted into the opening of the printed wiring board, and that fixes the printed wiring board with the first plate-shaped member; a second plate-shaped member that is disposed such that the printed wiring board is interposed between the second plate-shaped member and the first plate-shaped member; and a second fixing member that fixes the first fixing member with the second plate-shaped member such that the optical module is retained between the first plate-shaped member and the second plate-shaped member.
