An image reading device includes a control unit for controlling an image reading unit so as to perform a reading operation within a range obtained by adding predetermined widths m and n to a reading range set after prescanning by a setting unit so that the relationship of X X m and Y Y n holds at main scanning, where m and n are constants, X and Y are the lengths of the set reading range in the x-axis and y-axis directions, and X and Y are the lengths of an actual reading range in the x-axis and y-axis directions, respectively. As a result, it is unnecessary to perform troublesome operations, such as reassigning a reading range, and again performing a reading operation.

A self-timer operation informing device, particularly one having an auditory and a visual display device is disclosed. In the case of such information device, since both display devices are always driven in order to carry out the display operation, a problem exists in that the power consumption for the self-timer operation display is large. On the other hand, since it is difficult to confirm the display state by the visual display when the brightness is high, in such cases the auditory display is significant. In other words, the visual display does not have significance under high brightness conditions. A self-timer operation informing device, therefore, selects the driving of the visual or the auditory display device in accordance with the brightness information so as to prevent unnecessary display in order to save the power consumption.

In a camera having an autofocus device, when performing a continuous shooting, an autofocus operation by the autofocus device is repeatedly performed during a time from the termination of the shooting operation to the completion of a preparation for the next shooting operation, and if the performance of the autofocus operation has been at least once completed before the completion of the preparation for the next shooting operation, the completion of the aforesaid preparation for the next shooting operation is, even though the autofocus operation is in progress, immediately followed by the start of the next shooting operation, while if the autofocus operation has not been at least once completed before the completion of the aforesaid preparation for the next shooting operation, the next shooting operation is started depending on the completion of the autofocus operation.

The present invention relates to a photographic information setting device having a switch arranged to turn on and off and generate digital data when a stepwise operating member changes its position, wherein the turning on and off of the switch is detected with the help of current supply to the switch to renew the digital data until a desired value of any exposure factor is preset. In the present invention, when the aforesaid stepwise operating member lies in any of click-stopped positions, the current supply to the switch is cut off to prevent wasteful consumption of electrical energy. The number of times of turning on and off of the switch is once stored in a counter, and, upon detection of turning on and off of the switch, a computer reads out the content of the counter so that the renewed digital data are formed in the interior of the computer.
