In a shift device, the placement of magnets relative to sensors can be changed by rotating a ball shaft of a lever. The sensors detect magnetic fields generated by the magnets in order to detect a shift position of the lever. Shields suppress a magnetic field outside the ball shaft from reaching the sensors. The magnets, the sensors, and the shields are disposed on the ball shaft. This enables a reduction in the size of the shift device.

Shift device

A position sensor includes a magnet that generates a magnetic field, and a magnetic detector that is positioned opposing the magnet to detect an inclination of the magnetic field caused by the magnet. The magnet and the magnetic detector move relative to each other when an operation member is automatically or manually operated. The position sensor detects an operation position of the operation member based on a detection signal of the magnetic detector. The magnet includes two magnets positioned to oppose each other to generate the magnetic field as a parallel magnetic field at a rotation center of a support structure that forms operation axes of the operation member in multiple directions. The magnetic detector is arranged between the two magnets positioned opposing each other.

Position sensor and shift lever device

A position sensor that detects operation positions of an operation member includes an element array having three stages, each including one or more detection elements. A detected subject is detected by each detection element in two adjacent upstream and downstream stages to determine an operation position of the operation member. Whenever the operation member is shifted by one operation position, the detected subject is moved relative to the element array by one stage. Each detection element outputs a detection result of the detected subject. The element array includes at least three detection elements of which the detection results change whenever the operation member is shifted by one operation position. A detection element in the upstream side stage detects the detected subject before the operation position shifting, and a detection element in the downstream side stage detects the detected subject after the operation position shifting.

Position sensor

A position sensor for a transmission mode selector lever includes a magnet and three magnetic flux detection elements that detect magnetic flux of the magnet. A determination circuit determines an operation position of the transmission mode selector lever based on output levels of detection signals generated by the magnetic flux detection elements. The magnet includes first and second magnetized regions. The first and second magnetized regions are formed so that when the magnet is moved relative to the magnetic flux detection elements along a straight line, output levels of the detection signals generated by the magnetic flux detection elements change in accordance with a proportional relationship having a first or second gradient relative to the distance of the movement. The three detection elements are spaced apart from each other on a straight line that is parallel to the first and second straight lines.

A non-contact sensor includes a substrate having a groove, two pattern coils arranged on opposite sides of the groove, a detected object connected to the shift lever and moved in cooperation with the shift lever along the groove, and a signal processing circuit that calculates a movement amount of the shift lever based on an output value provided from the pattern coils.
