The present invention addresses a first problem of providing a polymer that has electrochromic characteristics, and that can form a sheet which seems more transparent when applied to an electrochromic element and is decolored. The present invention for solving the problem is a polymer obtained by forming a complex between, and binding together, compound A represented by formula 1: BP1-L1-BP2 and at least one specific metal ion selected from the group consisting of first metal ions having a coordination number of 4, second metal ions having a coordination number of 6, and third metal ions having a coordination number of 4 and 6. In the formula, L1 represents a single bond or a divalent group, and BP1 and BP2 may be identical or different from each other and each independently represent a bipyridine derivative.

An object of the present invention is to provide a novel electrochromic device (ECD). Disclosed is an electrochromic device (ECD) comprising two metal-complex-based electrochromic thin films individually acting as a working electrode and a counter electrode; (i) one of the two metal-complex-based electrochromic thin films being a film of a cathodically coloring metallo-supramolecular polymer comprising at least one organic ligand having a plurality of metal coordination positions and a metal ion of at least one transition metal and/or lanthanoid metal with the at least one organic ligand and the metal ion being arranged alternately, and the other of the two metal-complex-based electrochromic thin films being a film of an anodically coloring metal hexacyanoferrate (MHCF) represented by the formula: M(II)[Fe(III)CN](where M=Fe, Ni or Zn), and (ii) the electrochromic device having a first conducting substrate; the film of the cathodically coloring metallo-supramolecular polymer; an electrolyte; the film of the anodically coloring metal hexacyanoferrate (MHCF); and a second conducting substrate being arranged in this order.

The present invention is an electrochromic device which is provided with a first electrode; an electrochromic layer which is disposed on the first electrode, while containing an organic/metal hybrid polymer that contains at least an organic ligand and a metal ion to which the organic ligand is coordinated; an electrolyte layer which is disposed on the electrochromic layer; a counter electrode material layer which is disposed on the electrolyte layer and contains a conductive polymer; and a second electrode which is disposed on the counter electrode material layer. The present invention relates to a composite having exceptional heat resistance and durability that exhibits quick response characteristics when used in an electrochromic device; an electrochromic device in which the composite is used; and a method for producing said composite and device. The conductive polyrotaxane of the present invention contains an electron-accepting cyclic molecule in each of its repeating unit. Since the electron-accepting cyclic molecule remains stable because of molecular interaction with a &#x3c0;-conjugated oligomer molecule, the electron-accepting cyclic molecule is not dissociated during rotaxane polymerization reaction, and thus a conductive polyrotaxane of stable quality can be obtained.

The optical waveguide device further includes a second substrate, where the second substrate includes a second plate having a spacer. Additionally, a surface including the optical waveguide region of the first substrate opposes a surface including the spacer of the second substrate, the spacer is formed the region which is out of the core of the first substrate, a top surface of the spacer is in contact with the first substrate, the first substrate and the second substrate are bound with adhesive material, and the entire surface of the core is in contact with the adhesive material.

Optical waveguide device, manufacturing method thereof and optical communication apparatus

To provide an optical wave guide that may be produced by reproduction method in easy and simple manner, and has a structure that prevents light signal in its inside from leaking out from core, and a method for producing the same optical wave guide. A concave slot for forming a core is formed on the upper surface of a cladding substrate. And on both sides of the concave slot, cavities are formed via flat portions. An ultraviolet ray hardening type transparent resin is applied onto the surface of the cladding substrate, thereafter the transparent resin is pressed by a stamper. At this moment, a core is formed in the concave slot and excessive transparent resin is pressed between the stamper and the flat portions flows into cavities, as a result, it is possible to make the transparent resin thin in a short time. Thereby, it is possible to make the transparent resin left on the flat portions into thickness and width enough to prevent light in the core from leaking out.

Optical wave guide and method for producing the same

A method of manufacturing an optical waveguide device includes providing an optical fiber guide for fixing an optical fiber and optical element placing portions for providing element mounting benches outside a waveguide fixing region of a silicon substrate. A metallic thin film is formed outside the waveguide fixing region of the silicon substrate. After an optical waveguide substrate is bonded to a whole of an upper surface of the silicon substrate through a bonding resin which will become an upper cladding layer, the optical waveguide substrate is diced along an edge of the waveguide fixing region, and the optical waveguide substrate outside the waveguide fixing region is removed to expose the optical fiber guide and the optical element placing portions.
