A thermoplastic resin composition containing an oxygen-absorbing agent, wherein a resin matrix of the thermoplastic resin composition is substantially non-compatible and is composed of a blend of thermoplastic resins or elastomers, and the non-compatible thermoplastic resins and elastomers are present as a non-uniformly distributed structure in the resin matrix. The packaging container or cap of this invention suppresses the lowering of flavor retention incident to the dissolving out of the oxygen absorbing agent or its oxidation product even after retorting sterilization. The preservability of the contents and flavor retention can be achieved for a long period of time. According to a preferred embodiment, the oxygen absorbing speed can be increased. After storage for a long time, or after heat sterilization, a rugged state does not occur. There can be formed the oxygen-absorbing resin composition and the packaging container having excellent outer appearance.

An oxygen-absorbing container capable of forming active sites (polymer radicals) at any moment when it is desired to absorb oxygen remaining in the container and a method of producing packaged food using the container. A package capable of excellently preserving the content maintaining flavor can be easily produced through simple operation using an apparatus which is not so large in scale. The oxygen-absorbing plastic container has at least a portion that is made of a photo-oxidatively degradable resin or a resin composition containing a photo-oxidatively degradable resin and a photo-oxidation promoting agent that absorbs ultraviolet rays and visible light.

Disclosed is an oxygen-absorbing resin composition valuable for preserving water-containing contents such as drinks and precooked food, which comprises a heat-formable resin or resin composition having an oxygen permeation coefficient larger than 10.sup.-12 cc.multidot.cm/cm.sup.2 .multidot.sec.multidot.cmHg at a temperature of 20.degree. C. and a relative humidity of 0% and a water adsorption of at least 1% in pure water at 20.degree. Disclosed is a plastic multilayer vessel having a laminate structure comprising an intermediate layer of a resin composition formed by incorporating an organic metal complex of a transition metal into a gas-barrier resin having a specific oxygen permeation coefficient and a specific water absorption, and outer and inner layers of a moisture-resistant thermoplastic resin disposed on both the sides of the intermediate layer.
