An image forming apparatus includes a notifier, a power source, a first replaceable unit, a first body connector, a power supply switch, a detachment necessity determiner for determining whether the first replaceable unit needs to be detached, and a power supply controller. The first body connector includes a body power terminal and allows the first replaceable unit to be detachably connected thereto. The first replaceable unit includes a unit connector and an operation portion. The unit connector is connected to the body power terminal for supplying a power voltage to the operation portion. When the first replaceable unit is determined necessary to be detached, the power supply controller causes the power supply switch to turn off supply of the power source voltage from the power source to the body power terminal and causes the notifier to provide a notification recommending detachment of the first replaceable unit.

An image forming apparatus includes a drive roller, a rotary drive source, a rotation signal detection portion, and a removal determination portion. The drive roller is configured to rotate in contact with a printing medium. The rotary drive source is configured to supply a rotational force to the drive roller. The rotation signal detection portion is configured to detect a rotation signal indicating that the drive roller is rotated while the rotary drive source is being powered off. The removal determination portion is configured to determine whether the printing medium that has stopped in contact with the drive roller is removed, based on detection of the rotation signal by the rotation signal detection portion.

Provided is a control device for controlling a light source element configured to irradiate light for reading an image on a document including: a drive portion configured to selectively apply a first drive voltage and a second drive voltage lower than the first drive voltage to the light source element; a detector configured to detect a light quantity of reflected light of the light irradiated to the image; and a control portion configured to control the drive portion and switch between applications of the first drive voltage and the second drive voltage, wherein the control portion controls the drive portion based on a threshold period set in relation to an elapsed period from an application time of the first drive voltage and a threshold light quantity set in relation to the light quantity of the reflected light.

An embodiment may include a photoelectric conversion element that reads an image illuminated by the light source. In some embodiments, may measure the chromaticity of a white reference member. In some embodiments, a reference value storage unit may store a reference value representing the chromaticity of an image. In an embodiment, a control unit may control an operation of the device according to the calculated amount of chromaticity change. An embodiment may include measuring the luminous intensity of a light source and storing a reference value representing the luminous intensity of the light source. Some embodiments may include making adjustments to images.
