A control device for a belt type continuously variable transmission of a vehicle such as a motorcycle includes a first storage section for storing in advance reference correlation between a position of a movable flange and a detection value of a flange position detection sensor. A first processing section moves the movable flange to a position where its movement is restricted by a restriction section. A detection value of the flange position detection sensor is stored in a second storage section. A second processing section derives correlation between the position of the movable flange and the detection value of the flange position detection sensor based on the detection value of the flange position detection sensor stored in the second storage section and the reference correlation between the position of the movable flange and the detection value of the flange position detection sensor stored in the first storage section. A detection value of the flange position detection sensor is thereby calibrated.

Belt type continuously variable transmission and vehicle

A belt type continuously variable transmission for a vehicle such as a motorcycle includes a primary sheave and a secondary sheave each having a pair of flanges axially movable relative to each other. A belt is wound around the sheaves. An actuator controlled by a control device moves the flanges. The control device includes a determination section for determining whether the actual gear ratio of the belt type continuously variable transmission has become a predetermined gear ratio for TOP or LOW, and a first correction section for correcting an operation amount of the actuator based on the determination made by the determination section. Control accuracy in a region where the gear ratio is TOP or LOW is thereby improved.

In a transmission control system for a vehicle, in a torque return period at the time of up-shifting of a transmission, an engine torque and a clutch torque are increased in parallel. A target engine torque value and a target clutch torque value are set such that the clutch torque changes at a value higher than the engine torque. The target clutch torque value is set such that a difference between an amount of energy generated in a clutch and an amount of energy generated in an engine substantially coincides with an amount of energy required to reduce the rotation speed of the engine to a target rotation speed.

A machine, functioning as a unit, is composed of a main module and at least one replacable module having an ID. The main module includes (i) an ID recognition unit programmed to receive ID information from each replacable module, and (ii) an action decision unit including a decision algorithm programmed to select an action based on preselected signals. The decision algorithm is adjusted based on the ID information. The at least one replacable module includes (iii) an ID information unit storing ID information identifying the at least one replaceable module, and (iv) an action actuation unit including an action algorithm programmed to actuate the at least one replaceable module based on signals from the action decision unit; wherein the main module and the at least one replaceable module are communicated via an interface. The decision algorithm provided in the main module is adjusted based on the ID information, so that proper control can always be accomplished adaptively to the used replacable module.

A control method for controlling operation of an object used by a user in an environment includes the steps of: defining pseudo-emotions of the object for deciding output of the object, in relation to the user's state; formulating emotion generation algorithms to establish the relationship between the user's state and the pseudo-emotions; formulating behavior decision algorithms to establish the relationship between input, including the pseudo-emotions, and the behavior of the object; detecting the user's state; generating a pseudo-emotion of the object based on the user's state using the emotion generation algorithms; making the object behave based on the user's state and the pseudo-emotion using the behavior decision algorithms; evaluating reaction of the user in response to the behavior of the object; and if the reaction of the user does not match the pseudo-emotion of the object in the emotion generation algorithms, adjusting at least either of the emotion generation algorithms or the behavior decision algorithms, followed by learning the adjustment. The object can detect the user's state in a visual, tactile, and auditory manner as do humans, and can act upon generation of pseudo-emotions based thereon. Thus, natural communication between the user and the object can be performed, i.e., more human like communication can be established.
