To improve the reliability to an environmental temperature change of an optical pickup, an optical pickuphas a semiconductor laserfor generating a laser beam. An objective lens drive leads the laser beam to a predetermined position of a disk. The semiconductor laser and objective lens drive are mounted on a pickup hosing. The objective lens drive has a movable portionand the movable portion has an objective lensfor condensing the laser beam on the recording face of the disk. A fixed portionholds the movable portion through a support member. The fixed portion has a magnetic yoke. An extended portion formed by extending a part of the yoke to the fixed portion side and the upsideof a cutout formed at the intermediate portion of the fixed portion in the tracking direction are adhered and fixed.

Optical pickup

A small-sized optical disc drive includes one voice coil motor magnet within which a tracking coil and two focusing coils are disposed such that the tracking coil straddles the two poles of permanent magnets that are adjacently disposed. The two focusing coils are disposed on either side of the tracking coil, with each of the two focusing coils being only disposed over one of the permanent magnets.

Optical disc drive

An optical switch includes an input optical fiber, first and second output optical fibers, a movable mirror for switching over an optical path between the input optical fiber and an output optical fiber, and collimator lenses disposed on optical paths formed between the input optical fiber and the output optical fibers. When drive force is applied, the movable mirror assumes a first or second position to form an optical path between the input optical fiber and the first or second output optical fiber. When drive force is not applied to the movable mirror, an optical path is formed between the optical path in the first position and that in the second position. In the first position, a first part of the movable mirror comes in contact with a substrate. In the second position, a part of the movable mirror different from the first part comes in contact with the substrate.

Optical switch and optical switch array

In an optical head, if a lens is reduced in size so that it can be integrated with a light source and a photodetector, other optical components as well as the lens must be reduced in size, which would result in greater difficulties in handling for assembly and adjustment purposes. The invention allows large quantities of ultra-small optical heads to be produced accurately and at low cost, the optical heads being easy to adjust and not requiring the handling of minute components for adjustment purposes. A first substrate includes lenses for focusing light on an information storage medium, a second substrate includes detectors and disposed on the surface thereof, and a layer, which is disposed between the first and second substrates, includes prisms and mirrors. The layer also includes cavities in which light sources are disposed. The individual substrates are formed in the form of wafers with the lenses, mirrors, prisms, light sources, and photodetectors disposed thereon.

A small-size thin-bodied 3-dimensional matrix switch using a micro mirror array, comprises a collimator array with a plurality of collimators coupled to optical fibers, a mirror array with a plurality of movable mirrors, in which each movable mirror has light from a first collimator of the collimator array optically coupled thereto, a first mirror which has the light from the mirror of the mirror array optically coupled thereto, a second mirror which has the light from the first mirror optically coupled thereto, and a second collimator of the collimator array, which has the light from the second mirror coupled thereto, wherein the light leaving the second mirror passes the first mirror and the mirror array and optically couples to the second collimator.

Beam direction module and optical switch using the same

In order to provide a small-sized and compact optical switch of 1&times;4 type. Two movable optical fibers are fixed on a substrate by a fixing block disposed in a middle portion of the fibers. Two movable blocks made of a soft magnetic body are mounted to the both ends of the movable optical fibers. Two soft magnetic fixing blocks are arranged on the substrate for fixing one optical fiber so as to oppose to one of the movable block, and for fixing four optical fibers so as to oppose to the movable block, respectively. Two movable blocks can be independently moved with respect to the respective fixing blocks by means of actuators. Further, it is possible to detect a position of each movable block with respect to the fixing block by means of detecting electrodes.

In an optical switch system for switching over plural input lights and plural output lights corresponding thereto through spatial optical connection therebetween, having: a first reflection mirror to be directed with an input light and being controllable in position thereof; a second reflection mirror disposed opposite to the first reflection mirror, for reflecting the light reflected on the first reflection mirror, so as to outputted it therefrom; means for controlling positions of the first and second reflection mirrors, respectively; and means for adjusting the position of the first and second mirrors, which are controller by the controlling means, wherein a reference light being substantially different from the input light in wavelength is generated; both the reference light and the input light reflect upon the first and second reflection mirrors; and (c) optical intensity of the reference light selectively diverged from the reflection light is detected, thereby controlling positions of the first and said second reflection mirrors, so as to obtain the maximum in optical intensity of the input light.

Optical switch system and method for aligning optical axis therein

An optical switch for switching an optical path of an input optical signal comprises a substrate composed of a silica glass substrate, a separation layer formed on the silica glass substrate, a plurality of cantilever beams and formed in parallel to one another on the separation layer and connected at their tip ends to a connection member, at least one silica glass optical waveguide core formed on the cantilever beams, a plurality of optical waveguide fixed in opposition to the silica glass optical waveguide core, a cover for covering the cantilever beams, and a switch drive unit for bending the cantilever beams. The switch drive unit comprises electromagnetic actuators, which comprise soft magnetic bodies formed on the connection member for the cantilever beams and on the substrate, soft magnetic yokes formed of a soft magnetic body, permanent magnets, and wire coils.

Optical switch, method of manufacturing same, and optical communication equipment using same

A light emitted from the supervisory light source is supplied to the input port of any one of a plurality of switching sections provided in the optical switching device. A light emitted from the output port of the switching section is converted into electric signals and then compared with the threshold value by a supervisory receiver. The supervisory control circuit discriminates the state of connection at each switching section in the optical switching device according to the compared result obtained by the supervisory receiver, whereby each switching section in the optical switching device is supervised.

In an optical switch for connecting optically a first optical fiber supported on a stationary supporting block to a second optical fiber supported on a movable supporting block being movable relative to the stationary supporting block between a first position for the optical connection between the terminating ends of the first and second optical fibers and a second position for disconnecting the optical connection therebetween and being adjacent to the stationary supporting block, and a magnetic flux generator for generating a magnetic flux for moving the movable supporting block relative to the stationary supporting block, the movable supporting block includes a soft magnetic substance so that the magnetic flux passes through the movable supporting block.
