Capable of being provided are a production process for an optical waveguide which is excellent in a transparency and a reliability and an optical waveguide produced by the above production process.

Method for manufacturing optical waveguide and optical waveguide manufactured by the method

An optical waveguide contains a lower cladding layer, a patterned core layer, an upper cladding layer and an upper low elasticity layer, which are laminated in this order, in which a film formed by curing a resin composition for forming the upper low elasticity layer has a tensile elastic modulus of from 1 to 2,000 MPa at 25&#xb0; C., and a cured film having a thickness of 110 &#x3bc;m formed by curing a resin composition for forming the upper cladding layer has a total light transmittance of 90% or more. According to the present invention, an optical waveguide having a high-resolution core pattern can be produced.

The present invention provides a hybrid optical/electrical circuit board in which an optical waveguide prepared by an exposing and developing step is combined with an electric circuit, wherein a printed wiring board containing an inorganic filler and a light absorber is used, and it has an optical waveguide core pattern having a high resolution and makes it possible to raise a density of optical wiring.

The present invention provides a polymeric optical waveguide film whose core and clad are constituted from polymer materials and which is characterized in that a protective layer of a polymer material having resistance to solvent attack higher than that observed for the clad is arranged on at least one of the surface and back face of the waveguide film. The present invention thus permits the preparation of such a film, the clad of which is hardly damaged, which is excellent in the resistance to solvent attack and which never undergoes cracking even when it is bought into contact with a commonly used solvent such as acetone.

Polymeric optical waveguide film

The present invention relates to an electrode structure, which comprises a substrate provided with an electrode formed thereon, wherein the substrate comprises a layer of a fluorine-containing polyimide and a layer of a fluorine-free resin is interposed between the polyimide layer and the electrode and, in particular, to the foregoing electrode structure, wherein the electrode comprises a gold layer as the outermost or surface layer and an aluminum layer interposed between the substrate and the gold layer. The electrode structure of the present invention never causes any peeling off of the electrode due to insufficient adhesion of the electrode to the substrate, the structure has sufficiently high strength and therefore the boundary between the substrate and the electrode formed thereon is not destroyed by the energy of ultrasonics applied thereto.
