In one embodiment of a microwave sensor, when a 'low' plants countermeasure is conducted, if an alert has been generated 5 times or more within 1 minute, an object decision move distance is changed to be longer and a 'high' plants countermeasure is conducted. Subsequently, when assuming that the plants countermeasure is &#x201c;low&#x201d;, only if the alert is not generated within 10 minutes, the plants countermeasure is returned to &#x201c;low&#x201d;. Microwave sensor

A microwave sensor transmits a plurality of microwaves of different frequencies toward a detection area and carries out an object detection operation based on reflected waves of the microwaves from an object present in the detection area. The microwave sensor includes a distance identification section for obtaining a relative distance to the object in the detection area, a movement-distance identification section for obtaining a movement distance per unit of time of the object in the detection area, and an object determination section that receives output from the distance identification section and the movement-distance identification section and carries out an operation for determining object detection by setting the movement distance value per unit of time, which is a threshold for determining object detection, smaller for longer relative distances to the object in the detection area.

A threshold level is set in advance that has varied signal level values of reflected waves for which an object detection signal is to be generated, where the values vary in response to a distance to the object. In regard to discriminating a phase difference of respective waves reflected from an object and the signal level of the waves reflected from that object, and obtaining two distances to an object due to fold-over error when using only the phase difference, the present invention uses the signal level of the reflected waves to judge which distance is the correct distance.

Dual-frequency microwave sensor

A microwave sensor transmits a plurality of microwaves having different frequencies to a detection area and performs an object detecting operation based on reflected waves of the microwaves of an object present in the detection area. The microwave sensor includes object determining means that determines whether or not the object present in the detection area is an object to be detected, based on a moving direction of the object in the detection area.

Detection error resulting from rain, in the case of clear weather, and in the case of rainy weather are included in measurements by a measurement unit disposed in an MW sensor system. The error resulting from rain sharply increases as a preset &#x394;f becomes larger. The error in the case of clear weather sharply decreases as the preset &#x394;f becomes larger. Using &#x394;f as a parameter, a range, in which the rate of variability of the detection error resulting from rain with respect to &#x394;f is low overlaps with a range where the rate of variability of the detection error in the case of clear weather is low is set as the range of the detection error in the case of rainy weather. The detection error in the case of rainy weather becomes lower than the value of the detection error in the case of clear weather.

Microwave sensor system

A sensor has a trigger level that is set in advance in which a distance to a detected object and a signal level of waves reflected from the object are associated. The sensor only dispatches an object detection signal indicating that the detected object is an object to be considered as a detection target having a size larger than a predetermined size when a reflected wave that has a signal level exceeding the trigger level is received.

For a carrier wave carrying a microwave from an MW sensor, pulse intervals are varied between when the MW sensorgenerates an alert and when the MW sensordoes not generate an alert. When checking a sensing area, an operator carries a receiver being able to receive a transmitted wave from the MW sensor, walks around an area thought to be the sensing area and checks a monitor screen of the receiver. In this way, the sensing area can be checked at hand by the operator.

In contrast thereto, when human being(s) or the like approach, reaching location(s) comparatively near to MW sensor, it is possible to achieve a situation whereby object detection is determined to have occurred even where the speed of movement thereof is small.
