A vehicle control device includes a depression amount detection unit, a depression speed detection unit, a reaction force setting unit, and a reaction force generation unit. The reaction force setting unit sets a value of a reaction force in a manner of separating characteristics into advancement characteristics and return characteristics. The reaction force setting unit sets a value of a reaction force with respect to a depression amount in such a way that, in main advancement characteristics except for both ranges corresponding to start of depressing and end of depressing among advancement characteristics, a degree of increase of a value of a reaction force relatively decreases, as a depression amount increases until a predetermined ratio with respect to a maximum depression amount of an accelerator pedal reaches, and a degree of increase of a value of a reaction force relatively increases, as a depression amount increases after the predetermined ratio reaches; and sets a value of the reaction force in such a way that a value of the reaction force decreases, as a depression amount decreases.

An engine-hood guide mechanism guides the engine hood upwardly and rearwardly so as to cover at least part of the cowl box when a collision of a pedestrian against a front bumper face is detected or predicted, and lowers the engine hood downwardly when a load acting on the engine hood exceeds a specified load.

Pedestrian protection device for vehicle

A front body structure of a vehicle comprises a pair of front side frames, a bumper reinforcement, a bumper face, a leg-part sweeping-away member which is provided below the bumper reinforcement and extends in a vehicle width direction, a front end of which is positioned in front of the bumper reinforcement, and a support member which supports the leg-part sweeping-away member at the front side frame. The support member has a specified length in the vehicle longitudinal direction, and comprises beads which absorb an impact load inputted in the vehicle longitudinal direction through their deformation in the longitudinal direction.

An opening portion (2) is formed on an instrumental panel (1). A plurality of units (U1-U3) and a panel body (P) corresponding to the units are arranged. The units (U1-U3) have neither an input portion such as switches operated by the passenger nor an output portion such as a display for the passenger, and switch groups (7, 8) and a display (5) are mounted on the panel body (P). The units (U1-U3) and panel body (P) are coupled and connected to each other in advance to obtain an electronic equipment assembly. Of this assembly, the units (U1-U3) are stored in the instrumental panel (1) via the opening portion (2), and the opening portion (2) is covered by the panel body (P), so that the panel body (P) constitutes a portion of the wall surface in the passenger room.

The head rest is detachably mounted to the seat back of the front seat and the air bag unit with an air bag mounted therein is mounted to the head rest. The air bag is expanded toward the passenger seated on the rear seat in response to an explosion signal from the control unit into which signals are entered from impact sensors. The air bag is so disposed as to expand only when the passenger is seated on the rear seat. The posture and position of the air bag unit is adjusted in association with the movement or displacement of the front seat to which the air bag is mounted, thereby improving the ability of the expanded air bag to confine the passenger seated on the rear seat and protecting the passenger in a safer fashion. Further, the air bag unit is mounted to the head rest of the front seat, so that the air bag can be exchanged with ease and at a cheap cost without needing to exchange the front seat itself.

An automotive vehicle has a rear header disposed at a rear end of the roof and above a rear seat. For example, in the event where the automotive vehicle is about to roll, the seat back of the rear seat is leaned forwards and the upper end portion of the seat back is leaned forwards, thereby forcibly repositioning the head of the rear passenger seated on the rear seat to the position remoter from the back window panel.
