Provided is a filter medium including a porous polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) membrane and a gas-permeable supporting member that are integrated to ensure sufficient stiffness, having excellent gas permeability, and providing excellent bonding between respective layers included in the filter medium. The gas-permeable supporting member includes: a substrate having gas-permeability; and a fiber layer that is placed on the substrate so as to be in contact with the porous PTFE membrane. The gas-permeable supporting member has a structure in which fibers of the fiber layer enter into the substrate and are entangled with the substrate so that the fiber layer is bonded to the substrate. The fiber layer contains polyolefin-containing fibers that are bonded to the porous membrane.

Filter medium and method of manufacturing the same and filter unit

The present invention provides a filter unit panel in which the generation of an organic gas derived from an adhesive can be suppressed although a plurality of filter units each having a frame body made of a resin member and an outer frame that surrounds these units are used together. This filter unit panel includes a plurality of filter units () and an outer frame () that surrounds these units. Each of the plurality of filter units includes a pleated filter medium and a frame body that supports the filter medium. Both of the outer frame () and the frame body are resin members. The filter units () are integrated into a single unit by welding their frame bodies adjacent to each other, and the outer frame and the frame bodies are integrated with each other by welding.

The present invention improves a method of bonding by welding a plurality of filter units each having a frame body made of a resin member so as to provide a filter unit panel having excellent pressure resistance. This filter unit panel is obtained by disposing a plurality of filter units so that the outer peripheral surfaces of adjacent filter units () and () are partially in contact with each other but at least a part of the upper surfaces () and/or the lower surfaces () of the adjacent filter units are spaced apart from each other, and then melting a bonding resin so as to cause the melted bonding resin to flow into a gap () between the spaced upper surfaces and/or a gap () between the spaced lower surfaces and to cure. The bonding resin is supplied from, for example, protruding portions () and () of the frame body. This welding method increases the bonding strength between the filter units and increases the pressure resistance thereof accordingly.

Provided is a method of manufacturing a porous polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) membrane capable of achieving both a high collection efficiency and a low pressure drop, though it has a larger average pore size and a greater thickness than conventional porous PTFE membranes. This manufacturing method includes: stretching an unsintered polytetrafluoroethylene sheet by a factor of 5 to 30 in a predetermined direction at a temperature equal to or higher than the melting point of polytetrafluoroethylene; further stretching the stretched sheet by a factor of 5 to 40 in a direction different from the predetermined direction at a temperature lower than the melting point; and after the stretchings, heating the stretched sheet at a temperature equal to or higher than the melting point.
