At a conveyor forefront portion, velocity distribution of an airflow is provided. The velocity distribution is wind velocity distribution in a vertical direction of an airflow from a surface of an upper rectifying plate to a surface of a conveyor at the conveyor forefront portion, and has a maximum value in a range of less than 10 mm downward of the vertical direction from the rectifying plate surface. Moreover, a ratio obtained by dividing the maximum value by a wind velocity in the vicinity of the surface of the conveyor is 4 or more, and 12 or less. In a range other than the range of less than 10 mm, the airflow has a wind velocity equal to the wind velocity in the vicinity of the surface of the conveyor.

A separation method includes: conveying a separation subject comprising a group of pieces placed on a conveyor in one direction; detecting, by a detecting device, compositions of pieces in the group of pieces placed on the conveyor; generating, by a blower, airflow at an end portion of the conveyor in a conveying direction in which the conveyor conveys the separation subject, the airflow having a velocity matching or substantially matching a conveying speed of the conveyor; stabilizing the airflow by a current plate placed along a trajectory of the group of pieces; and by a jetting device, obtaining position information of a piece of a particular material detected, and jetting pulse air toward the piece of the particular material when the piece of the particular material, which is travelling through air from the conveyor and whose travel is assisted by the airflow, passes by the jetting device.

A separation apparatus includes: a conveyor that conveys a group of pieces; a material distinguishing unit that distinguishes between first pieces and second pieces that are placed on the conveyor, according to material; a blower that generates airflow supplied from a middle of the conveyor toward a conveying end along a conveying surface; a first separation unit that blows off the first pieces thrown forward from the conveying end, based on a differentiation result obtained by the material distinguishing unit; a second separation unit that blows off the second pieces toward a different place; and a current plate provided below the group of pieces thrown forward and protruding from the conveyor.

A separation method for extracting a targetfrom a separation subject () in which the target () to be extracted and a non-target () are mixed. The method includes the steps of distinguishing the target () from the non-target (); obtaining positional information of the target () distinguished; attaching a liquid to the target () based on the positional information; and extracting the target () from the separation subject () by bringing a catch member () into contact with the separation subject () such that viscosity of the liquid causes the target () to adhere to the catch member.

A separation method of separating first targets () and second targets () from a separation subject (). A sorting member with an optimized surface shape is adopted to pressurize a mixture heated on the sorting member to allow a melted resin mixed in the mixture to adhere to the sorting member to sort the resin from an unmelted resin. A separation object including at least two types of resins with different glass transition temperatures (glass transition temperature of a first resin&#x3c;glass transition temperature of a second resin) is placed on a separating member. Next, primary heating is applied at a temperature between the glass transition temperatures of the first resinand the second resin, and pressurization is additionally performed to cause the first resinto adhere to the separating member. Subsequently, a heat history of secondary heating at a temperature higher than the primary heating temperature is applied to detach and recover the second resinby restoring the shape of the second resin, while the first resinadhering to and retained by the separating memberis detached by a bladeand the like for recovery.
