A gas sensor element includes a solid electrolyte body having oxygen ion conductivity, a measurement electrode provided on one surface of the solid electrolyte body and exposed to a measurement gas, and a reference electrode provided on the other surface of the solid electrolyte body and exposed to a reference gas. Both the measurement electrode and the reference electrode include noble metal particles, solid electrolyte particles having oxygen ion conductivity, and pores. The measurement electrode comprises a surface measurement electrode layer comprising a surface serving as a contact surface with the measurement gas and an intermediate measurement electrode layer disposed in contact with a surface at solid electrolyte body side of the surface measurement electrode layer. The surface measurement electrode layer has a higher porosity than the intermediate measurement electrode layer has. The gas sensor comprises the gas sensor element.

Gas sensor element and gas sensor

A gas sensor element has an electrolyte layer, a first insulator, a second insulator, a measurement gas chamber, and a reference gas chamber. The electrolyte layer includes a holding plate and a solid electrolyte body. The first insulator is laminated on one side of the electrolyte layer, and the second insulator is laminated on the other side of the electrolyte layer. At least a part of the boundary portion between the placement hole and the solid electrolyte body is sandwiched between a first sandwiching portion of the first insulator and a second sandwiching portion of the second insulator.

Gas sensor element

A gas sensor element includes a solid electrolyte plate, and a measurement electrode and a reference electrode provided on surfaces of the solid electrolyte plate. In a section plane of the reference electrode along a thickness direction, noble metal regions, solid electrolyte regions, mixed regions, and void spaces are present. When a ratio of an area B of the mixed regions in the section plane with respect to an area A of the reference electrode in the section plane is a mixed region ratio B/A, and a ratio of an area C of the void spaces in the section plane with respect to the area A of the reference electrode in the section plane is a void space ratio C/A, a parameter value as a product of the mixed region ratio B/A and the void space ratio C/A falls within a range of 0.001 to 0.01.

Gas sensor element and method for manufacturing the same

A gas sensor element includes a solid electrolyte having oxygen-ion conductivity, a first electrode film located on one side of the solid electrolyte, a second electrode film located on the other side of the solid electrolyte. At least one of the first electrode film and the second electrode film includes noble metal particles, solid electrolyte particles having oxygen-ion conductivity, and pores, and a capacitance in the electrode film is 80 &#x3bc;F or less. A gas sensor includes the gas sensor element.

A gas sensor element has a solid electrolyte of an oxygen ion conductivity, a target gas electrode formed on one surface of the solid electrolyte, a reference gas electrode formed on the other surface of the solid electrolyte, a porous diffusion resistance layer through which the target gas passes to reach the target gas electrode, and a catalyst layer formed on an outer surface of the porous diffusion resistance layer. The target gas electrode is formed around the porous diffusion resistance layer. The catalyst layer contains noble metal catalysts. The noble metal catalysts contain at least rhodium and palladium. A content of rhodium is not less than 10 mass % and a content of palladium is not less than 20 mass % to the entire of the noble metal catalysts.

Gas sensor element, gas sensor equipped with gas sensor element, and method of producing gas sensor element

A multilayered piezoelectric element and a method of producing the multilayered piezoelectric element are disclosed. The multilayered piezoelectric element is made of piezoelectric ceramic layers and electrode formation layers which are alternately laminated. The piezoelectric ceramic layers are made of crystal oriented ceramic as polycrystalline material. The crystal oriented ceramic is made mainly of an isotropic perovskite type compound in which the specific {100} crystal plane of each of crystal grains that form the polycrystalline material is oriented. The electrode formation layers have electrode parts forming inner electrodes containing a conductive metal. The isotropic perovskite type compound is expressed by a general formula (1):[Ag{Li(KNa)}](NbTaSb)O&#x2003;&#x2003;(1),where 0&#x2266;x&#x2266;0.2, 0&#x2266;y&#x2266;1, 0&#x2266;z&#x2266;0.4, 0&#x2266;w&#x2266;0.2, x+z+w&#x3e;0, 0&#x3c;h&#x2266;0.05, 0.94&#x2266;j&#x2266;1, and 0&#x2266;k&#x2266;0.5).

Multilayered piezoelectric element and method of producing the same

A stacked piezoelectric element obtained by alternately stacking a piezoelectric ceramic layer and an electrode layer, wherein said electrode layer mainly comprises an electrically conducting base metal electrode material, and the region held between the electrode layer positioned at the top of each ceramic layer and the electrode layer positioned at the bottom of each ceramic layer contains a material having no piezoelectricity, in which a constituent element of said material having no piezoelectricity is uniformly dispersed so as not to have local distribution of a distributed strength exceeding 2 times the distributed strength which is distributed in a largest number of places and is not 0.

Stacked piezoelectric element and production method thereof

An ignition system has an ignition circuit and an ion current detecting circuit. The ignition circuit has an ignition coil that has relatively low inductance of about less than 10 henries (H) because it is used in conjunction with a separate energy accumulating coil, and a driving circuit for a multi-spark ignition sequence. The ion current detecting circuit detects a second harmonic component of engine knock. The components of the system are designed so that the resonance frequency of an ion current path substantially coincides with the second harmonic frequency component, so that the Q-value of the ion current path is greater than 1. As a result, it is possible to improve knock detecting accuracy.

Ignition system with ion current detecting circuit

In an engine ignition unit, a transistor and a current detecting resistor are connected to primary and secondary windings of an ignition coil, respectively. The current detecting resistor is used for detecting a current flowing between the opposing electrodes of spark plug. At an ignition by the spark plug, high-frequency square wave signals are generated by an oscillator after an ignition signal is cut off. The square wave signals turn on and off the transistor. By this operation, a battery voltage is intermittently applied to the primary winding and an ion current is measured. A frequency of the square wave signals is set close to a resonant frequency of an ion current path including the spark plug, the secondary winding of the ignition coil and the current detecting resistor.

Ion current detecting device for internal combustion engine

A battery, an energy charge inductance, and a first transistor are connected in series in an ignition system. A primary winding and a second switching device are connected in series between the ground and a point between the energy charge inductance and the first switching device. A drive circuit switches periodically on and off the first switching device and the second switching device during multispark duration of the spark plug such that each switching device has a different switching status from each other. After the multispark duration, the drive circuit switches periodically on and off the second transistor with a short switching interval. The switching interval is set such that a relatively low voltage that almost causes a spark is impressed to the spark plug. An ion current detection is implemented by using this voltage as a power source.

Ion current detection system and method for internal combustion engine

To excellently grow flame kernel while lowering breakdown voltage, a bypass electrode comprising a semiconductor material is installed in a path bypassing an inductive spark gap between a center electrode and a ground electrode, and the center electrode and the ground electrode are electrically connected by the bypass electrode and capacitive discharge is carried out by applying breakdown voltage between the center electrode and the ground electrode via the bypass electrode, and thereafter, inductive discharge is carried out through the inductive spark gap.
