When a guiding route is included in a display target region at a photograph display mode, route data of the guiding route is also read. Within the read route data, information of a region for editing a photograph is stored. This information includes a road kind (color information), coordinates of the start/end points of the road, and a road width when editing is for a road. Next, photograph data is read, so that a color of the photograph data is edited based on the stored information of the route data. For instance, a color of the photograph data in a corresponding road region is changed to red that represents 'national road.'

Electronic device and program for displaying map

A map image showing a current position and its surroundings, a route, and an arrow are displayed and superimposed on one another. The arrow has a base indicating the current position and a length indicating a predetermined distance along the route. The arrow has the transparency adjusted to be half transparent to make the map image and route discernible. The arrow moves along with the current position as a vehicle travels on the route. When the route is rectilinear, the shape and length of the arrow do not change. When the route is turned left at an intersection, the arrowhead is turned left after reaching the intersection. Since the arrow is displayed along the route, the arrowhead is disposed on a road to which the vehicle is brought by a left turn made on a road on which the base is disposed.

Navigation system and program

An information center sends an OK message for a log-in and version information for a menu to a moving body terminal device. The moving body terminal device compares the version number of the menu held therein and the informed version number. If they are different, the device asks for menu update. In response to the request, the information center supplies difference data indicative of the difference between the menus of different versions to the moving body terminal device. Using the difference data, the moving body terminal device updates the menu held therein. With this arrangement, the menu used in the moving body terminal device can be effectively updated.

When a user selects an item from a menu displayed by a display unit of a vehicular terminal, a control unit of the vehicular terminal receives information data and location data corresponding to the information data from an information center and stores the data inside a database. After receiving present position data from a present position detection unit, the control unit determines location data that is nearest to the present position from among location data stored in the database. Then, the control unit drives the display unit to display the information data corresponding to the extracted location data, thus simplifying the selection process the user needs to perform to obtain the desired information.
