A cover unit includes a first cover that is movable between a cover position and an exposed position. A second cover slidably is movable in a direction perpendicular to its visible surface. A cover moving mechanism moves the second cover, wherein, when the first cover is at the cover position, the second cover is at such a height that the visible surface of the second cover is substantially coplanar with a visible surface of the first cover. When the first cover is moved from the cover position to the exposed position, the second cover is moved to such a height such that the visible surface of the second cover is moved by at least an amount that corresponds with the thickness of the first cover. When the first cover is at the exposed position, the first cover is above the visible surface of the second cover.

A mirror drive apparatus includes a movable unit including a mirror used to switch an optical path in an imaging apparatus, a drive mechanism capable of switching the movable unit between a first and second attitudes by pivoting the movable unit around a predetermined pivotal axis, an elastic member and a locking mechanism provided on one side of the pivotal axis, the elastic member producing an urging force for switching the movable unit from the first attitude to the second attitude, the locking mechanism capable of maintaining the first attitude of the movable unit on which the urging force acts and releasing the movable unit, and a toggle mechanism provided on the other side of the pivotal axis and capable of switching the movable unit between the first attitude and the second attitude by urging the movable unit so that the movable unit takes the first or second attitude.

A sintered metal sprocket for a silent chain is produced by the following steps. A base mixture is prepared, which contains a powder metallurgical iron powder, a lubricant and a graphite powder. Then, the base mixture is subjected to a compression molding while being heated at above approximately 100&deg; C. thereby to produce a green compact. Then, the green compact is subjected to a sintering at a temperature above approximately 1180&deg; C. For much improving the mechanical performance of the sprocket thus sintered, the same may be subjected to a carbonizing hardening or an induction hardening.

Magnetic recording apparatus are provided for recording signals on a magnetic tape. A recording head records signals in successive tracks on the tape and a tape transport transports a magnetic tape past the recording head in a recording direction. In one embodiment, absolute track addresses are recorded in at least some of the tracks, the absolute track address of each track corresponding to a distance of the track from a start position of the magnetic tape. Recording is initiated from a track having a predetermined absolute track address corresponding to a predetermined distance from the start position. In a further embodiment, the tape transport transports the tape initially by a distance necessary to establish a stable running state, and thereafter transports the tape a further distance while recording reproduction control signals so that during reproduction a stable running state may be achieved. Thereafter, information to be output is recorded.

An improved connecting terminal for an electromagnetic shield is provided for use with a printed circuit board. The printed circuit board is contained in a shielded casing having shielding walls to define compartments. The connecting terminal makes an electric connection between the ground pattern, the shielded inside and shielding walls of the shielded casing, thereby preventing an electromagnetic field from interfering with surrounding electric circuits. The connecting terminal comprises an elongated base strip having an undersurface to be soldered to a selected portion of the ground pattern and a pair of inwardly directed contact arms integrally connected to the opposite ends of the elongated base strip. Each contact arm makes contact with the shielded inside and shielding walls of the casing.

A card-receiving connector system for a miniature circuit card. A card holder receives a card, and a frame is adapted for locating the card holder in an operative position thereon and includes spring contacts mounted therein for engagement with electronic circuitry on the card. Complementary interengaging latches are provided between the frame and the card holder for holding the card holder in the operative position. An eject mechanism is mounted on the frame for ejecting the card holder from its operative position. An unlatching mechanism is operatively associated with the eject mechanism for unlatching the interengaging latches in response to movement of the eject mechanism. Lost motion is built into the eject mechanism to permit unlatching of the latches prior to ejecting the card holder from its operative position.

A braking mechanism for use with a tape recorder and reproducer machine including a first chassis having a rotatable head drum provided thereon, and a second chassis connected to the first chassis for sliding movement with respect to the first chassis between first and second positions. The second chassis has a cassette chamber including spool tables for receipt of a tape cassette at the first position of the second chassis. The head drum carries a plurality of heads operable at the second position of the second chassis for recording a signal onto a cassette-type magnetic tape and reproducing a signal from a cassette-type magnetic tape. The brake mechanism comprises a rotary member drivingly associated with one of the spool tables. The rotary member has a brake drum secured thereon. A resilient brake arm is fixed at its one end on the first chassis and provided at the other end thereof with a brake shoe. The brake drum comes into resilient contact with the brake shoe to apply braking to the one spool table with movement of the second chassis to the second position.

A video tape recorder having a tape tensioning mechanism for tensioning a magnetic tape drawn out of a tape cassette. The tape tensioning mechanism has a tensioning arm rotatably mounted on a movable Chassis, a tensioning pin for contacting the tape to tension the tape when the tape has been loaded in a predetermined tape path, a tightening lever movably mounted on the movable chassis, and a tension spring for urging the tensioning arm in a direction of rotation to bring the tensioning pin into contact with the tape. A pusher is fixedly mounted on a fixed chassis for pushing the tightening lever to tighten the tension spring substantially at the same time that the magnetic tape is loaded in the predetermined tape path. When the magnetic tape is not loaded in the tape path, the tightening lever is released from the pusher to loosen the tension spring.
