A telephone display unit in which by rotating a dial reception data histories are sequentially displayed and if a name corresponding to a telephone number has been registered, the name is displayed. If a name is not registered, a telephone number is displayed. In case of a reception in which a message has been recorded, the display unit showing the presence of the message is lit and this fact is notified. By selecting a necessary message by the dial and pressing a switch constructed integratedly with the dial, the selected message is directly reproduced. Only the necessary message can be reproduced without reproducing unnecessary messages or the reception in which no message is recorded.

Telephone answering unit with caller ID and variable ring sounds

A cordless telephone with no control channels which makes connection possible even when the handset or the base unit is within the area of another cordless telephone. When effecting connection between the handset and base unit through a pair of communication channels, connection request data is transmitted from one to the other of the handset and base unit by using one of a pair of communication channels paired with the other which is available as seen from the transmitting side. From the other side, on which the communication request data is received, data indicating whether the communication channel through which the connection request data has been transmitted is busy or not is sent. The transmission of connection request data is repeated through different communication channels until the data sent back indicates an available channel. When the data sent back indicates an available channel, connection is effected from then on between the handset and base unit through this available pair of channels.

Apparatus and method for allocating channels in plural communication

In a cordless telephone having no control channel, the time required for connecting a cordless handset to a base unit is reduced in a cordless telephone wherein a cordless handset and a base unit are connected using any one of a plurality of communication channels to allow a call, the plurality of communication channels are divided into a plurality of groups. By using a communication channel included in one of the plurality of groups, standby, calling, and call receiving modes of operation are effected.

A cordless telephone having a handset unit, which is powered by a battery, and a base unit for communicating with a desired party. A telephone conversation with the desired party may be interrupted by activating a hold mode. The hold mode is released by executing predetermined commands, for example, a talk request command. The hold mode is also released after a predetermined period has passed, whereupon the handset unit is placed in a relatively low power standby mode thus reducing the power consumption of the battery of the handset unit.

A cordless telephone having a base unit to be connected to a telephone line network and a handset unit to be connected to the base unit through a communication channel upon initiation of a telephone conversation. The cordless telephone includes a detecting circuit provided in the handset unit for detecting removal of the handset unit from a predetermined standby position, and a circuit for generating a command signal such that, when the detection output of the detecting circuit indicates that the handset unit is picked up from the predetermined standby position and, on the condition that a dial key of the handset unit is operated, the base unit is connected to the telephone line network.

A cordless telephone is comprised of a base unit, a handset unit, and a telephone answering machine (TAM) unit. In a normal communication mode, audio signals from the handset unit are coupled to the telephone line network through the base unit. In an automatic answering mode, an audio signal from the telephone line network is recorded at the TAM unit through the base unit. When a predetermined key of the handset unit is operated, a control signal is supplied to the TAM unit by way of a transmitting circuit in the handset unit, a receiving circuit in the base unit, a transmitting circuit in the base unit and a receiving circuit of the TAM unit to place the TAM unit in a reproduction mode, whereby previously recorded audio signals are reproduced and supplied to the handset unit via a transmitting circuit in the TAM unit, the receiving circuit in the base unit, the transmitting circuit in the base unit and a receiving circuit in the handset unit.

Cordless telephone system having a telephone answering machine function

Apparatus for transmitting and receiving signals for use with a so-called cordless telephone, in which an audio signal and an identification code signal are transmitted and received by both the handset and base unit of the telephone and when the identification code signal is not correctly detected, as might be caused by cross-talk interference, the transmitter is disabled and a vacant communication channel is searched for and a communication channel is changed to thereby prevent a cross-talk interference. The unit that does not correctly receive the code signal immediately disables its transmitter and searches for a vacant channel and, because the code signal had been alternately transmitted and received between the two units, the other unit detects the stoppage of code signal transmission, disables its own transmitter, and then also moves to the next vacant channel to await further transmission of the code signal.

Apparatus for transmitting and recording signals

A multichannel access cordless telephone has a base unit and a handset unit which, in a standby mode, each independently scan a plurality of communication channels to detect interference thereon and to record those channels on which interference is detected. Thereafter, in a talk mode of the cordless telephone, one of the base unit and the handset unit scans the communication channels other than the detected ones previously recorded to detect a vacant one of the communication channels and to establish communication between the handset unit and the base unit thereover.

Cordless telephone

A cordless telephone having a base unit and a separate handset unit is operable in an intercom mode in which operators at the two units are in telephonic communication. If an incoming telephone call appears when the telephone is in the intercom mode, the loudspeaker of the handset unit and a ringer of the base unit both produce a ringing sound to announce the call. When one unit is then disabled by the operator thereof hanging up, the other unit is automatically connected to the telephone network line to receive the incoming call. The handset unit produces the ringing sound from its loudspeaker at a first volume when it is disabled and in a standby mode, and at a second lesser volume when it is enabled and in the intercom mode to avoid producing a loud ringing sound directly into the ear of the handset operator.

A cordless telephone has a transfer capability by which an incoming telephone call may be transferred from the base unit to the handset unit or from the handset unit to the base unit. Each unit includes an intercom key which may be actuated to place the telephone in an intercom mode wherein the base unit and the handset unit are in communication with each other while the incoming call is on hold. Deactuation of one unit in the intercom mode results in the other unit being automatically adapted to receive the incoming call. Alternatively, actuation of either intercom during the intercom mode results in both units being automatically adapted to receive the incoming call and placed in communication with each other.
