A heater power controller for an ink jet printer wherein the output of a comparator making a comparison between a detection signal of the temperature of an ink in a print head of the ink jet printer and a reference signal is chopped by a clock having a predetermined period so as to be converted into a chopper signal, by which the supply of the power to a heating means provided in the head is controlled. A regulating device for regulating the duty ratio of the chopper signal is provided. Each of pulses constituting the chopper signal is made out of phase with a pulse supplied to other pulse-driven load.

Heater power controller for ink jet printer

An ink jet printing apparatus of the impulse type which has an ejection failure detector. The detector has electrode means for charging ejected droplets, a reception electrode for receiving the charged droplets, and a circuit for detecting the approach and arrival of the charged droplets at the reception electrode. An ejection failure detection causes a nozzle purging operation.

Ink jet printing apparatus

A method of determining failure of an ink jet printing apparatus in which a plurality of ink droplets are jetted from each of the nozzles of the ink jet printing apparatus in succession toward a receiving electrode. The ink droplets are electrically charged as they travel toward the receiving electrodes, and a waveform signal which is the summation of the signals developed by each of the particles is used to determine whether the ink jet printing apparatus is functioning properly. An apparatus is also disclosed for determining whether the ink jet printing apparatus is functioning properly and includes charging electrodes in close proximity to jetting nozzles of an ink jet printing head and adapted to electrically charge ink droplets jetted from the nozzles as they travel toward a receiving electrode. Intermediate electrodes which are maintained at constant potential are positioned between the charging electrodes and the receiving electrode and serve to increase the magnitude of the signal imposed upon the receiving electrode.
