A module, such as a module configured to be used in a refrigeration system, includes a gas-liquid separator which is configured to receive a first refrigerant, to separate the first refrigerant into a gas portion of the first refrigerant and a liquid portion of the first refrigerant, and to transmit the gas portion of the first refrigerant. The module also includes a heat exchanger which is configured to receive a second refrigerant and to exchange heat between the second refrigerant and the gas portion of the first refrigerant and/or the liquid portion of the first refrigerant. Moreover, the heat exchanger is disposed within the gas-liquid separator.

A vapor compression refrigerating system having a compressor, a radiator, a first pressure reducing mechanism for reducing a pressure of refrigerant cooled by the radiator, a refrigerant branching means for dividing refrigerant (m) reduced in pressure by the first pressure-reducing mechanism into portions, a second pressure reducing mechanism for reducing a pressure of one portion of refrigerant (m), and a third pressure reducing mechanism for reducing a pressure of another portion of refrigerant (m). One portion and pressure reduced refrigerant (m') exchanges heat in a cooler with refrigerant present between the first and third pressure reducing mechanisms, and another portion and pressure reduced refrigerant (m&#x2032;) is evaporated by an evaporator. The evaporated refrigerant (m&#x2033;) and the refrigerant (m&#x2032;) having passed through the cooler are mixed by a gas/liquid separator, and the mixed refrigerant is introduced into the compressor. In a vapor compression refrigerating system using carbon dioxide, the degree of refrigerant superheating at a suction side of the compressor may be reduced, and a coefficient of performance of the refrigerating cycle may be increased.

An air conditioning system for a vehicle includes a compressor. The vehicle includes a first drive source and the compressor includes a second drive source. The compressor is driven by the first drive source or the second drive source, or a combination thereof, and the second drive source includes an electrical power supply. The air conditioning system also includes a controller for selecting between the first drive source and the second drive source, such that when the compressor is active, the first drive source drives the compressor except when the vehicle is operating in a predetermined mode, a voltage of the electrical power supply is greater than or equal to a minimum electrical power supply voltage, and an amount of electric power consumed by the second drive source is less than a maximum electric power. For example, the predetermined mode may be an idle-stop mode.

An air conditioner for a vehicle uses a hybrid compressor ( ) including a first compression mechanism driven by a first drive source ( ) and a second compression mechanism driven by a second drive source ( ), and a single discharge port connected to the first and the second compression mechanisms. The operation of the hybrid compressor is controlled by a controller ( ) in accordance with a control mode. The controller has a first operation mode in which the first compression mechanism alone is driven, a second operation mode in which the second compression mechanism alone is driven, a third operation mode in which the first and the second compression mechanisms are simultaneously driven, and a fourth operation mode in which the first and the second compression mechanisms are simultaneously stopped. Depending upon various conditions, the controller selects, as the control mode, one of the first, the second, the third, and the fourth operation modes.

Vehicle air conditioner using a hybrid compressor

An air conditioning system for a vehicle includes a compressor driven by a first drive source or a second drive source, or a combination thereof, and an evaporator operationally connected to the compressor via a refrigerant circuit. The system also includes a blower for dispensing air into an interior of the vehicle via the evaporator. The blower is driven by the first drive source or the second drive source, or a combination thereof. Moreover, the system includes a controller for controlling the first drive source and the second drive source. Specifically, when a temperature of air dispensed from the evaporator is greater than a predetermined temperature and a speed of the vehicle is greater than a predetermined speed, the first drive source drives the compressor and the blower. Moreover, when the temperature of air dispensed from the evaporator is greater than the predetermined temperature, the speed of the vehicle is less than the predetermined speed, and a voltage of a power source of the second drive source is less than or equal to a predetermined voltage, the compressor is inactive and the second drive source drives the blower.
